An introduction to shame and shame containment theory
'Work with shame from the perspective of shame containment theory' presented by Lisa Etherson, psychosexual therapist and PhD researcher.
Learn how to work with shame from the perspective of shame containment theory.
SCT is an innovative approach to shame that helps us to understand shame. In this session, we will briefly explore how SCT is also a model for working with shame that can be used by counsellors and psychotherapists from various disciplines. In this training, we will explore the five components of shame and how we can help clients work through each of these different elements of shame.
About the presenter
Lisa Etherson is a psychosexual therapist in private practice in the UK. Lisa is also a PhD researcher, exploring shame, relational trauma and compulsive sexual behaviour in adult men. Her interest is in whether our experiences of shame in childhood influence our adult behaviours.
