This advanced-level diploma will equip students to work with the complex emotional needs of children and young people. Integrating the skills from play and creative therapy models will focus on working with trauma and self-harming behaviours from a relational therapy basis. 

This is an experiential skills-based course, aimed at qualified psychotherapists looking to expand their skills and experience to work with children and young people. 

Our integrative approach incorporates the following modalities of therapy: 

·       Play and creative therapy

·       Gestalt and person-centred therapy 

·       Systemic and somatic therapy 

We will focus on the following creative therapy approaches: 

·       Art

·       Movement and dance

·       Music

·       Puppets

·       Sand tray

·       Sensory

·       Creative visualisations

·       Sculpts 

Supervision is available for students undertaking this advanced-level diploma at an additional, cost. This ensures students are developing and practising safely as they integrate these skills into their psychotherapy practice. 

There are five parts to the diploma, and it runs over 1 year: 

a)     Teaching – 15 days.  (120 hours) 

b)     Clinical practice – 100 hours of direct work with clients 

c)     Supervision – 20 hours of group supervision.  Starting end of year 1. 

d)     Self-study – 150 hours 

e)     Assessment – completion of 2000-word reflective essay & one 2500-word case study.
