About me

I am able to support clients by phone,  Zoom or in person 'Walking and Talking'.

Working over the phone and online still means that the emotional connection between client and counsellor is crucial to the effectiveness of the therapy.  Quickly building rapport will enable you to feel heard.  Some clients feel that telephone and Zoom sessions actually seem to be of benefit in a way face-to-face work is not - they feel able to speak more freely sooner and so the therapy moves onwards at a quicker pace.  It is truly a unique experience.

I also offer Walk and Talk sessions. Walking and Talking in a therapeutic way is a wonderful way of connecting to the outside world, journeying together and literally moving forwards.

I trained as an integrative therapist. This means I believe there is not just one way of working with a client. With a foundation of empathy, genuineness and the creating of a trusting relationship, I believe that therapeutic change can occur.

Counselling is a special experience in which you are listened to in a non-judgemental and supportive way.  A counselling conversation may feel very different to talking to friends or family. It may be the first time you have really felt heard or listened to. Being listened to and supported in this way will enable you to make your own decisions, to understand yourself better, to take control and facilitate change.

I can help you to appreciate the ordinary, to enjoy the details of your life and feel free from the constraints of comparison.  When you begin to actually live in and enjoy the everyday, you will feel peaceful, motivated and more able to cope. That's extraordinary living!

What happens in a typical counselling session?

In a typical counselling session I will listen attentively to what you are saying and help clarify your words to ensure you are being fully understood. Together we will work out what it is that you want and how you can go about making changes, no matter how small those changes may seem.

By working together and voicing your thoughts and feelings, you will gain a different perspective on your situation. This will help you to feel less stuck or less alone and more able to live a full life with a hopeful future.

I will ask you questions about your past, your family and your experiences of growing up in order to understand you fully and to think about repeated patterns of behaviour that may no longer be working for you. I will encourage and support you to reflect on your situation and to uncover what it is that you want. You will learn how to express yourself and to think about how to improve your situation and to take action.

How many counselling sessions will I have?

I offer both short and longer term counselling. Some clients benefit from short term counselling over 7 to 10 sessions and this can be very effective and beneficial.  Others find that ongoing support over 6 months or more is helpful.

We will review our progress regularly.

Training, qualifications & experience

Training and Qualifications

  • MA in Counselling and Psychotherapy, University of East London
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy, University of East London
  • Certificate in Counselling and Counselling Skills, Birkbeck, University of London

I am a fully qualified psychotherapist and have experience of working with clients who have work and relationship difficulties, those affected by addictions, issues around money, bereavement, issues of self-esteem, lack of motivation, boredom, depression and anxiety.

I have a special interest in working with those in the public eye, performers and  influencers.   Perhaps you feel a disconnect between your public self and your private inner world and would like to harmonise the two.  Is what you put on social media so carefully constructed that you have lost sight of who you are?

I welcome enquiries from others who work behind the scenes in TV and media who perhaps need shorter term support after filming or being part of difficult subject matters.

I also offer counselling for those affected by Dementia. I work in a mindful way both with the person living with Dementia and with the family carer or carers.

I have experience of working with a range of clients, diverse in age, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation and religion.

As a member of the BACP I am bound by the guidelines in the Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
