About me

I am a fully accredited Counselling Psychologist and I have worked within the field of mental health in various capacities for more than twenty years. I currently work within the NHS in an adult primary care setting offering (brief) CBT and behavioural couples therapy. I have an additional role as the Parental Wellbeing Lead in a Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service in Lewisham.

I am able to offer individual psychotherapy for a range of difficulties such as depression, generalized anxiety, health anxiety, stress, phobias, obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic attacks, low self-esteem, bereavement, post-natal depression, eating difficulties, post-traumatic stress and adjustment difficulties. I endeavour to provide a service that is tailored individually to meet your needs. My main area of specialism is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, counselling and couples therapy. I am accustomed to working with clients with severe and complex mental health conditions. I am a Mindfulness based practitioner and regularly incorporate compassion focused approaches in my work with clients. I can offer both short term and long term therapy.

I am a bilingual therapist and am fluent in Urdu and Hindi. I am particularly keen on working with clients using a multi-cultural framework.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am an accredited member of the Health Care Professionals Council (HCPC) and a chartered member of the British Psychological Society (BPS). I have completed a Doctorate in Counselling Psychology from London Metropolitan University. Other qualifications include BA Combined Degree in Applied Psychology & English Literature from the University of Punjab (Pakistan) and BSc (Hons) in Psychology from the University of East London.

I currently work as a psychologist within an IAPT service (primary care) offering brief evidence based psychological therapies such as CBT for a range of mental health difficulties across the life span. My additional role within the Children & Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) is that of the Parental Wellbeing Lead where I offer assessment, treatment and a signposting service to parents with diagnosed and undiagnosed mental health issues. Additional responsibilities include offering clinical supervision, co-facilitating parent psycho-educational groups, and offering consultation across cases. I have experience of working with adolescents, adults, older adults, and couples.  I have also worked with people with severe and enduring mental health difficulties and individuals with acquired and traumatic brain injury. I have a particular interest in cross-cultural approaches within counselling and psychotherapy. I am an active member of the Black & Asian Counselling Psychology Professionals Group. I am highly alert to how aspects of culture, race and diversity impact upon the therapeutic process within my client work.
