About me

Counselling and resilience work with individuals, and groups

About me
I moved to Bristol 28 years ago. I have thrived on working with people from all sections of the community; from professionals to those experiencing social injustice and marginalisation (LGBTQ; Racially minoritised; Disabled; Care leavers; Older people; Ex offenders). I have many years experience of counselling couples, and individuals. I have also worked with traumatised children, young people and adults in the voluntary sector.

My approach to counselling
My work places the emphasis on resilience. It is for anyone feeling overwhelmed by life challenges, such as, bereavement and loss, illness, work related stress, and relationship or family difficulties. Some of the most difficult experiences aren't always viewed as traumatic. By this I mean racism, homophobia or social inequality. But they are, and they can impact on us for a life span.  I start from the perspective that we are all resilient even if at times we don’t think we are. And our resilience has been tried and tested, throughout our lives, even though we might not always understand. Some aspects of our resilience, for example, resources or survival tactics that got us through a difficult or traumatic period may not be appropriate during our recovery; or even threaten our ability to operate successfully in less challenging times. My aim is to help you to understand how you have coped with life challenges in the past, what individual resources you were able to draw on and where you found resources in other people or places. These insights will enable you to understand which resources might be useful in your current situation and what might be less helpful.

Starting counselling and resilience work – You will have the opportunity to discuss why you feel you need counselling and what I can offer you as a practitioner in a free 30-50 minute telephone or zoom consultation. If we decide that I am not right for you I will signpost you to other colleagues. If you decided to continue, we can book six sessions and then review how you feel. It is up to you to decide if that is enough or if you want to continue.

Individuals: I work on a sliding scale £90- 120 per session

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
