About me

My name is Wendy and my private practice, Gold Oak Counselling, is a warm and non-judgmental space where you can talk and be listened to with empathy and honesty. I strive to help you work through your problems as you see them and towards the future that you see for yourself.

I believe that everyone has the ability to change or make changes and there is always hope in the future.

I am an integrative counsellor, meaning I believe that no one single theory has the answer and each person is unique. I draw on multiple theories and the therapeutic process is created around what works best for each individual.

I specialise in working with sexual abuse and anxiety. My experience as a therapist covers a diverse range of client experiences and backgrounds.

I believe in equality and inclusivity. My approach is collaborative, neurodivergent affirmative, and adapted to the needs and experiences of gender, sexuality and relationship diverse clients. I am a kink aware therapist.

I provide relationship counselling and individual therapy for teens and adults.

I offer online counselling and warmly invite you to book your free initial 20 minute session. This is to explore what you would like from counselling and see if we would work well together.

Training, qualifications & experience

Before fully embarking upon my counselling journey, I have worked as a manager and as an early years teacher alongside studying psychology for most of my adult life. I also took time out to have a family. I have a Msc in Forensic Psychology, a BSc (hons) degree in Psychology, a Foundation degree in counselling as well as Level 4 diploma in counselling. I specialise in working with trauma, sexual abuse and anxiety. I work with adults, children and offer relationship counselling. I have worked with addiction, disordered eating, depression, anger, anxiety, PTSD, sexual issues, kink, fertility, health pregnancy related issues, self-harm, sexual abuse, domestic violence, social anxiety, feelings of sadness, abandonment and attachment issues, suicidal feelings and more.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

The initial session, which is a free 20 minute phone consultation, is a chance for us to talk through what brings you to counselling and to discuss your individual needs. I regard the relationship as integral to the counselling process and believe it is important to have a ‘good fit’ for both you and me. This session allows you to decide if I am a person you are able to work with. There is no obligation to move forward with therapy if you do not feel it is right.

I work with clients on a short term and long term basis, usually weekly to begin with, this may move to fortnightly later on. During our first session we would decide upon a day and time that best suits you. I would take your email address and send you across my contract for you to read through in your own time, before our first session. Payment is then required to secure your session with me.

I offer a discount for Police, Military and Forces, Fire and NHS workers.
