About me

I can offer you a safe space to talk within an accepting, warm, empathic environment, where I hope you can feel heard and understood. My years of experience as a counsellor includes working with clients in private practice, NHS, Education and the Voluntary Sector. I am a registered member of both COSCA and BACP and follow their ethical standards and codes of practice. Short-term or longer term counselling can be provided.

Training, qualifications & experience

  • Diploma in Counselling, University of the Highlands and Islands, Moray College (2013)
  • Alcohol Focus Scotland Addiction Counselling Training (2007)
  • PgDip Health Promotion, Robert Gordon University (2004)
  • PGCE (Secondary Education), Queen's College, Glasgow Caledonian University (1994)
  • BSc. Human Nutrition & Dietetics, Queens College, Glasgow Caledonian University (1990)

I have over 10 years experience as a person-centred counsellor.

In addition to having a private practice, I have worked with clients referred from a GP practice, college students, clients struggling with addiction at Moray Council on Addiction (Elgin) and ADS (Stranraer).

I am currently a Lecturer in Moray College UHI, teaching on the DipHE in Person-Centred Counselling and Psychotherapy.

Prior to counselling, I have experience working in Learner Support in Moray College, as a teacher in Secondary Education, a Health Promotion Officer in NHS Fife and working with people with disabilities for Enable and Key Housing.

Member organisations

BACP

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.

Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.

All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

COSCA

College of Sexual and Relationship Therapists

COSCA is the professional body for counselling and psychotherapy in Scotland, and seeks to advance all forms of counselling and psychotherapy and the use of counselling skills by promoting best practice and through the delivery of a range of sustainable services. COSCA Counsellor Accreditation is a pathway to entry onto the UKRC.

It is a requirement of all individual and organisational members of COSCA to abide by its Statement of Ethics and Code of Practice and be accountable to the Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

Accessibility

Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.
