Walter Berry Person-Centred Counsellor PG Dip
I have been working as a person-centred counsellor for more than 6 years. I follow the humanistic person-centred approach believing that we all have within us the capacity to move forward in our lives given the right conditions of a non-judgemental trusting therapeutic relationship.
You will find me an open, trusting transparent person willing to hear you without judgment. No matter the reason for seeking therapy I will try to understand you from your perspective, together I am sure you will find what's right for you.
Every person I see is different and that’s why I work with whatever you bring to a session, I work within the nondirective approach meaning that I do not give you advice or tell you what to do. I will to the best of my ability empathise with you, I may gently challenge you if that were appropriate. So, to some extent, I adapt my approach to suit the needs of everyone. While most of my time will be spent listening to you, I may ask a question or two or reflect what you say in order to gain greater clarity and self-awareness, to empower you to grow into your full potential.
Sometimes I may offer an alternative to just talking the symbols from my Play Therapy toolbox could be used this may include art material, clay, miniatures etc. I also offer Person-Centered Sand Tray counselling this can be a very powerful and useful medium. You would be able to explore your issues without the need to explain or share any detail if you didn't want to.
This can be done in several ways; a nondirective way meaning the work is done in silence or a more directive way meaning verbal interaction between client and therapist. Sand Tray work is normally offered once a trusting therapeutic relationship has been established.
This work has led me on to further my understanding of human nature mental health issues and problems that plague us through our lives. I have trained and become a postgraduate certified play therapist offering play therapy to children from 3 to 12 years old it follows the person-centred approach which works 'hand in glove'.
I hope it all makes sense to you please feel free to contact me if you have any question.
It's about finding the right Therapist for you.

MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.
Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority.
