About me

***I am only available for counsellors (in training or qualified) for clinical supervision at this present time. I am not available for new clients at this time***

I am a fully qualified and experienced counsellor/ psychotherapist and an accredited member of the BACP.

Based in Wendover, I offer day, and evening sessions which last 50 minutes. I practice both short term and long term therapy and we would work together to explore whether short term or long term therapy is appropriate for you. I practice confidential one to one counselling. I am also trained as an EMDR Accredited Practitioner and an Attachment Focused EMDR therapist.

There are moments when you might find giving yourself time and space, may enable you to explore emotions and experiences.  Counselling/ therapy can provide the opportunity to explore thoughts and feelings that you might not feel able to share with those around you.  This could enable you to view yourself and other relationships in different ways and open up new or different paths to understanding yourself.

People who come to see me have a range of experiences that bring them to counselling, such as trauma, bereavement, domestic violence, divorce, anger management, self esteem issues, loss, anxiety, PTSD, phobias, OCD, and depression.

Self esteem or negative thoughts about yourself can be a constant source of anxiety and difficult to talk through or understand. By giving yourself time to explore the patterns of negative thoughts about yourself (body image, guilt, self worth, feeling hated or rejected by others) this can open up different paths and ways of seeing yourself and those around you.

Clients often state how distressing and vulnerable it feels to be depressed and that they are often unable to share those feelings with friends, family or work colleagues. By allowing time to explore the feelings that are often kept hidden within a confidential space, this can enable understanding of what might be causing your depression and different ways of seeing you and life can emerge.

Bereavement counselling can provide a space where you are able to explore your grief without someone saying you have to 'move on' and to understand that your grief might be very different to those around you, as every persons grief is a unique journey.

PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), generalised anxiety and phobias have been shown to respond to EMDR therapy (National Institute of Clinical Excellence,2016). So if you are having flashbacks to a distressing event or feel overwhelmed by anxiety or a phobia EMDR might be a therapy for you. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an approach that has been extensively researched and proven effective for the treatment of PTSD. For further information on EMDR please visit www.emdria.org

I have also completed the advanced training in Attachment Focused EMDR which enables clients who have experienced difficulties in childhood and it feels like that impacts on your adult life to make links and stop repeating harmful patterns or to enable you to make closer relationships to other (such as relationship breakups or lack of relationships). Attachment Focused EMDR and EMDR can also provide a clear path to work with phobias, OCD, one off trauma such as road traffic accidents and generalised anxiety and depression.

If, after reading my profile, you feel you would like to find out more or arrange an initial assessment please telephone 07552-086133. Your message is treated confidentially and I will respond to your call as soon as possible.

FAQ

What happens in counselling?

There are many different types of counselling/psychotherapy and different perceptions of what occurs in counselling.  Counselling offers an opportunity for you to explore losses/anxiety/specific experiences in a confidential setting.

The initial assessment is an opportunity for you to assess if you feel we can work together and for me to assess if I am able to enter into a counselling partnership with you.

How often will we meet?

We would meet each week, at the same time, on the same day, for 50 minutes.  I will give you four weeks notice of any holiday I have and I would ask you to let me know of any sessions you were unable to make with as much notice as you were able to. With some EMDR clients we might talk through having 90 minute sessions when working through a phobia or specific issue.

How long will the counselling last?

With each person who enters counselling the length of counselling can be different so I cannot give you a definitive answer. Open ended counselling has no set time limit.  This means that when you feel you might want to end the counselling we will discuss ending together.  Time limited counselling can range from 6 to 12 weeks. Until we have met I am unable to say what whether open ended or time limited counselling might be more appropriate for you.

What experience do you have?

My background is within the NHS and Education for the last 20 years. I have had my own private practice for over 10 years and for four years before that I trained in Psychotherapy. I have coordinated a counselling service within a hospice and worked for several counselling organisations, including a hospice and an adult psychotherapy organisation. I have also trained as an EMDR therapist in 2016, EMDR Accredited Practitioner 2022 and Attachment Focused EMDR therapist in 2018.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a fully qualified counsellor/psychotherapist who trained for four years in Therapeutic counselling.

As an EMDR therapist I have worked with people with sexual abuse, emergency response staff and officers with their trauma, phobias, anger issues, generalised anxiety and depression and clients seeking therapy around attachment patterns.

I am a trained bereavement counsellor and worked as a bereavement co-ordinator for a hospice charity.

I have worked with clients who have experienced issues in bereavement, anxiety, depression, self-esteem, domestic violence and losses such as bereavement and divorce.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
