About me

Hello, I am a fully qualified and experienced BACP accredited counsellor/psychological therapist. My private practice is on the outskirts of Worthing and I work with clients experiencing a wide range of difficulties including relationship problems, loss, addiction, depression and anxiety, offering short term or longer open-ended support.

My aim is to offer a safe, honest, warm, confidential and non-judgemental space for clients to explore their uncertainty and confusion. I work to help clients explore their inner and external worlds, and to gain an increased understanding into what they might be able to do to make things better for themselves.

At times in life when we are faced with loss, trauma, change, conflict, uncertainty, relationship problems, depression or anxiety, or we are just caught up in the busyness of life and need to stop and reflect - it helps to talk things through with someone who is not directly involved in our lives, who can listen and hear how things are for us, help us gain some clarity and work to make sense of our difficulties.

I don’t have a magic wand, I can’t change the past and we can’t control other people, but what we can do together is explore how you can feel more confident and empowered to regain more control of your life, and work to overcome the issues that are troubling you.

Supervision

I have a CPC post graduate diploma in supervision. I have experience in supervising counsellors from different training backgrounds including Humanistic, Psychodynamic, Person Centred and Integrative, and have over 10 year’s experience supervising within an NHS setting.

Since going through my own counselling training, my continued work as a Counsellor and later as a Supervisor, I have hugely valued the supervision space to reflect on the therapist’s and client’s process to gain increased insight into the work. I find supervision to be richly rewarding and work to facilitate a place of reflection, challenge and growth.

I welcome working with counsellors from both time-limited or open-ended settings, or student counsellors studying for a diploma.

Training, qualifications & experience

My original training was in the Psychodynamic approach and since qualifying I have worked in various different settings, enabling me to develop and broaden my practice and skills, including over 10 years experience in working within an NHS IAPT service as a Counsellor delivering brief interventions to clients experiencing depression and anxiety, and as Lead Counsellor and Clinical Supervisor. I also have experience in working within an Alcohol and Substance Misuse service (SASS) helping clients address addiction problems.

As a registered and accredited member of the BACP I adhere to their Ethical guidelines. I attend regular Supervision and Continued Professional Development.

My Qualifications include

  • BACP Accredited Advanced Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling
  • CPC Post Graduate Diploma in Supervision
  • Certificate in Substance Misuse Counselling
  • IPTUK Certificate in Interpersonal Therapy (IPT) for Depression (IAPT) – Accredited Practitioner & Supervisor
  • Registered and Accredited Member of the BACP
  • Certificate in Couples Counselling

I regularly attend CPD events to develop and inform my practice, please see my website above for further details.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
