About me

Hi, my name is Vicky I am a fully qualified counsellor on an Accredited Register with National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS) seeing clients from Bristol and surrounding areas. Are you looking for a warm, friendly and experienced counselling service where you can reflect on your own needs and within this find personal resources and capabilities to help you move forward? I will help you explore the issues which are hindering you from living life fully.  It’s never too late to look at any concerns which are bothering you today.

The relationship we build between us as counsellor and client can be the most rewarding and important part of the therapy, within this I can offer you empathy, self-care and understanding as well as it being a great learning tool for dealing with your daily life and relationships outside the counselling room.

I know seeking support through counselling can be one of the hardest things to do, I am aware that sharing your innermost feelings can feel difficult and challenging at times but the rewards can be life-changing.  I can support you through such difficult times without judging you and with a compassionate presence and understanding. I will help you see your circumstances from a new perspective.

By working with me I will provide you with a safe confidential space where I can connect with you and create a learning space which in turn enables you to work through any issues which are concerning you in the here and now and from the past.  Working on selves can be complex and emotionally difficult as well as exciting and inspiring, whilst creating opportunities for growth and positive energy and feelings.

I have in the last 6 years integrated an approach called AIT Advanced Integrative Therapy which is one of the energy psychotherapy models.  This is a trauma and body focused approach which I have found very helpful and at times very powerful. This incorporates therapy with calming techniques as well as some mindfulness that helps the mind and body when working through difficult experiences.  We will be using muscle testing (roots in kinesiology) and chakra clearing as part of this healing process.  Please read further about it on the AIT uk website: https://www.ait-uk-europe.com/

Warm regards

Vicky

Background

I first became a mother at the age of 37 second time I was 44 years (now 47 years old 2023) and I know how hard it can be to adjust to life with all the stresses which parenthood can bring.  Becoming a mother has been a challenge as well as hugely rewarding. I have experience with going through the peri menopausal stage and know how debilitating this is at times for some of us. I originate from Denmark and came to the UK in 1996.I am fluent in English and Danish as well as understanding Norwegian and Swedish which I can use in my counselling practice. I empathise with the transitions which come when changing culture and embrace working across cultures, diversity and living in a foreign country as well as adapting to new environments, laws and social systems.

Alongside my counselling practice my past experiences, have included work within the caring professions, working with people with learning difficulties and their families.  I have experience in supporting people, with a range of addictions, mental health problems, and learning difficulties, in order to enhance and improve their lives.

I completed my training placement whilst volunteering at the Swan and Akousis Project, Bristol and continued volunteering as a qualified counsellor.  I worked with abuse, trauma, self development, addictions, depression and mental health and Wellbeing (2009-2013).  I was also a trainee counsellor for a year with Hopes Place Counselling where I worked with pregnancy and family related issues such as baby loss, still birth, abortion, adoption, post and prenatal depression.\

I started my private practice in 2014 that was a huge step, moving away from the security of being an employee to self employed.  It was scary at first but now I am really happy to have progressed with my own practice and I enjoy my counselling work even more today.  There have been lots of challenges along the way and lots of learning which continues today.  The many years of study and hard work have been worth the while as well as the stress and tears.

My approach

I offer a mindful reflective space where I incorporate various approaches depending on your individual needs.  I trained and work as a Humanistic Integrative counsellor and have with time developed and grown as a therapist and now feel confident incorporating a variety of interventions and approaches from a range of theoretical approaches such as Person Centred Counselling, Psychodynamic Counselling, Transactional Analysis, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Gestalt. I will always work with relational depth whenever possible and try to establish a trusting, nurturing and safe environment in order to enhance the effectiveness of therapy.

I have in the last 6 years been using Advanced Integrative Therapy (AIT) as an important part of my trauma work and this has been an especially powerful way to release traumatic unconscious patterns as well as enabling the body to heal.  Please read more about this on the website for AIT UK Europe.
https://www.ait-uk-europe.com/

As well as offering "talking therapy" I can also work creatively if this feels appropriate for you.  I use a variety of techniques and mediums which can help self development and expressing difficult emotions.  Furthermore I can incorporate relaxation and mindfulness techniques when this is suitable for you as a client which can help develop self-acceptance and non-judgemental attitudes.
I am quite a pro-active kind of person, and by that I mean I am happy to adapt a more coaching type of session by incorporating coaching skills as an element of the counselling relationship when this is appropriate and right for you as a client. I am always continuing to practice and enhance my skills and knowledge through training and exploration of my own practice.
