Veena Ganapathy BSc MSc MA Dip SW Cert PG Dip (UKCP, BACP, FPC)
It may be that you’re feeling overwhelmed by stress, anxiety, depression, poor sleep, low self-worth or are having problems connecting with yourself and others. In this time of change - whether that be political, environmental or social - you may be experiencing difficult and confusing emotional states. You may be wishing to find a safe and collaborative space in which to explore your thoughts, feelings or behaviours and to consider how a deepening self-awareness may help you cope better with both your internal world and the external one.
I am a qualified psychodynamic psychotherapist and I invite you to contact me. My way of working values the exploration of previous experiences and their impact on current thoughts, emotions and behaviours. I hope that working therapeutically together, we could create a containing and reflective space in which to better understand your difficulties and acknowledge the pain you may be carrying. This engagement with the emotional world can lead to acceptance, healing and growth on a profound level. I hope, in working together psychotherapeutically, we can find a safe and accepting way to understand yourself better and give meaning to your inner world and authenticity to your experience.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have over six years’ experience working psychodynamically with adults with a wide range of issues, ranging from low-mood and anxiety to problems with relationships. My time as a bereavement counsellor reflects my interest in giving meaning and space to the complex and deeply distressing experience of loss.
Prior to my career in psychotherapy, I was a NHS psychiatric social worker, supporting adults with severe and enduring mental health problems. I am, therefore, familiar and experienced in working with people with a wide range of emotional and mental health disturbances and challenges. Worthwhile in its own right, this time also strengthened my commitment to the value of ‘talking therapies’ in the alleviation of disruptions to good emotional and mental health.
In addition to my psychotherapy and social work qualifications, I have a BSc in Psychology and an MSc in Social Psychology, both of which have provided foundations upon which to build my knowledge and experience of the internal world and psychological states of being.
My extensive and relevant experience, training and knowledge enable me to work at a deep level by accessing the unconscious world whilst preserving an appreciation of each individual as a whole and unique person.

In addition to the areas of interest specified above, I am invested in therapeutically supporting those exploring issues of identity and belonging. I am committed to working inclusively, with respect for diversity and individuality.
My fees are competitively priced and I would be happy to give you more information at the initial meeting. (This is an exploratory session to better understand what has prompted you to seek therapy at this point in your life and to consider whether psychodynamic psychotherapy may be of value to you).
I try to keep a limited number of low-cost session slots available to those who may otherwise be excluded from seeking therapeutic support. Again, we will have the opportunity to discuss this further if you feel this may be relevant to your particular circumstances.
If you are considering personal therapy, I would invite you to contact me to arrange an initial exploratory session. There is no obligation to commit to ongoing therapy following this meeting but it may give you some sense of what it would feel like to work together in this way. I look forward to hearing from you.
I was the featured psychodynamic psychotherapist in Talk Yourself Better: A Confused Person's Guide to Therapy, Counselling and Self-help by Ariane Sherine (2018).
