My name is Vanessa. My main concern is to provide a safe space where we can work together to begin to explore, understand and resolve the issues which have brought you to therapy.
My core training is psychodynamic, meaning that we would consider how your early experiences have shaped your current behaviours, relationships and expectations about the world. I also work with creative techniques such as guided visualisation and mindfulness when appropriate.
I am currently undertaking further training in systemic psychotherapy, which means I will consider with you the wider social, political and cultural pressures that may be affecting your wellbeing.
I also offer trauma-focused therapy, working with grounding and breathing techniques and some psychoeducation around how trauma responses affect the mind and body.
Some of my key areas of experience are working with anxiety, depression, bereavement, self-harm, eating disorders, gender and identity, relationship problems, domestic abuse, chronic shame and PTSD and trauma, especially relating to issues from childhood.
I can also offer walk and talk therapy, sometimes known as ecotherapy, taking therapy outdoors to immerse ourselves in the healing effects of nature to improve wellbeing, something which is proving increasingly relevant in these uncertain times, when we are finding solace in nature. I am a qualified forest school leader with outdoor first aid qualifications. I am fully DBS checked and insured for working therapeutically outdoors.
I work from several locations around Brighton and Hove, depending on what's suitable for you. My ecotherapy practice ranges further across Sussex, finding locations that work for you.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.
Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.
All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
