About me

Life can often feel chaotic and overwhelming, but you don’t have to face it alone. I’m Vanessa, an experienced and qualified counsellor based in Exeter, and I’m here to support you through life’s challenges, no matter where you’re starting from or how you’re feeling.

I understand that reaching out for help and speaking to a stranger can feel intimidating, so I aim to create a safe, comfortable, and confidential space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings without fear of judgment. Together, we will work towards your goals for therapy, focusing on what feels important to you.

As an integrative counsellor, I use different approaches tailored to your unique needs. I believe in building a relationship based on trust and collaboration, tailoring the therapy to meet your unique needs. We'll work at a pace that feels right for you, exploring what helps you grow and move forward. I also like to bring openness, optimism, creativity, and even some humour into our sessions because therapy doesn’t always have to be so serious.

Whether you prefer to meet in person in Exeter, online, or over the phone, I’m available to work in a way that suits you.

Training, qualifications & experience

Your safety and well-being are my top priorities. I am DBS-registered and follow the BACP Ethical Framework to ensure you receive the best support.

I specialize in helping with relationship issues, domestic abuse, trauma, and sexual abuse (both childhood and adult). Working in trauma and informed way, I support those dealing with shame, depression, anxiety, or suicidal feelings.

You'll be heard and understood as we work through your challenges together. I’m race and culturally aware, LGBTQIA+ allied, and neuro-affirming, with a special interest in supporting late-discovered neurodivergence, such as Autism and ADHD.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
