I am a counsellor/psychotherapist working in Herefordshire with many years experience. I also offer life coaching and am a fully qualified supervisor.
You may be finding the things you used to enjoy hold no meaning for you anymore. You may be waking up feeling tired and lethargic: you may find yourself over-reacting to little things that never used to bother you before. You may find yourself becoming angry and frustrated, unable to concentrate or make decisions.

The increased pace of modern life means that people are having to adjust to job insecurity, longer working hours and increased responsibility. This has coincided with an increased instability in family life and social relationships. In view of this it is not surprising that psychological conditions, such as Depression, Anxiety disorders and chronic anger are on the increase.
Working within the Human Givens framework, my role is to help you understand what is happening to you, to access your resources and coping strategies, (which may be more than you realise) that will help you get your life back on track in as few sessions as possible. Human Givens therapy aims to help the majority of people within two to four sessions, sometimes people require more. Also, if you don't want to talk about painful memories you don't have to.
Training, qualifications & experience
I initially did a foundation course in Counselling and Hypnotherapy with the UK Training College in London. Following this I did further training in Person-Centered Counselling, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Transactional Analysis and eventually took a Post-Graduate Diploma and MSc in counselling and psychotherapy at the University of Central England (now Birmingham City University).
I am committed to ongoing professional development and recently completed a Diploma in Human Givens therapy, which to date is the one therapy that has made the most sense to me. I adhere to the Human Givens code of ethics and practice. I am insured to practise and have an enhanced CRB check. I am an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and in line with their requirements am in regular supervision.
I worked for 17 years as a primary care counsellor with the PCT, within GP surgeries, in Herefordshire and co-ordinated the service for a number of years. I also ran CBT based psycho-educational courses for Depression and Anxiety management. During this time I helped to set up and manage a counselling service for women considering termination of pregnancy. I also set up and managed a counselling service for a large organisation in Hereford.

I will offer practical techniques to deal with mental and emotional distress.
I will ensure that you start to feel better immediately. I don't believe you have to feel worse before you feel better.
I will use knowledge from the past to help you move on, rather than dwelling on it endlessly.
I will deal swiftly with trauma you may have experienced using a technique that avoids you having to talk about all the details.
I will teach you relaxation techniques that will help you to deal better with life's challenges.
I will give you useful information about the neurology and biology of your difficulty should it be helpful.
I will help you identify areas where your needs are not being well met and why this is so.
I will work with you to set realistic and achievable goals and agree with you a strategy to help you reach your goals.
I will help you develop and use your own resources and help you develop valuable life skills which will enable you to move on.
