About me

Hi my name is Val, thanks for visiting my profile page.

I am an integrative counsellor offering individual counselling from a comfortable practice in Chester. Searching for a counsellor can seem daunting, so it is really important to find one who fits with you and understands the difficult issues life can bring.  I have experienced many difficulties throughout my life, and can bring that understanding into my work with you.

I am a registered member of the BACP, and adhere to their framework of ethics and good practice, including supervision and continued Professional development.

Are you Feeling overwhelmed, suffering anxiety/panic, depressed, emotional or stressed and need something to change?

Counselling can help, by talking through your problems, gaining a different perspective, identifying your needs and working together on how to change things for the better.

Emotional and physical distress can be exhausting, impacting on every area of our lives and affecting our health and well-being. Talking through these difficulties can bring about a sense of freedom and control, when things have previously felt overwhelming or hopeless.

You have already taken the biggest step, by seeking support. Whatever the reason you are here, as an empathic, non judgemental counsellor,  I will listen, accept and respect you. I will not tell you what to do, but will work with you to help reach a positive outcome. Whatever you bring to counselling is treated with complete respect and confidentiality.

How I Work

Being a qualified Integrative counsellor, allows me to use different models of therapy to tailor my support to your individual needs. Blending CBT , Psycho dynamic & person-centred approaches, I am able to help you to identify the difficulties you are experiencing, explore them in a safe confidential space, and support you to change it and move forward. We are all individuals so it is important to find the best approach to suit you and your needs. Counselling can help you to see clearly where your difficulties lie, and to change what is not working for you, allowing you to decide what is needed to improve your life.

I have experience of:

Primary health care through GP referrals,

Supporting blind and visually impaired client's, in a non for profit organisation

Working with adults of all ages with various mental health issues.

I have worked as a therapist with children & young people in a charitable organisation.

I have also worked within schools, providing counselling for students, with issues such as exam stress, bullying, anger, low self-esteem, low confidence, family breakdowns, divorce.

Hypnotherapy

As well as counselling I am a qualified Hypnotherapy practitioner. Hypnotherapy interventions and techniques can enable us to work at a deeper level, helping to relieve stress and anxiety, build confidence and rid yourself of unhelpful thoughts and behaviours. Hypnotherapy is also a great tool to promote deep relaxation.

Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.
