Dr Ulia Mather, MSc, MBACP (Reg) Psychotherapist, Counsellor & Supervisor
I offer confidential counselling, psychotherapy and supervision in Edinburgh and online. I provide short and long-term, solution focused, couple, relationship, family, performance and trauma therapy (CRM, BSP, Somatic etc), mentoring, coaching, consultancy and training.
I work collaboratively with clients who either have mild issues or suffer from prolonged mental health, anxiety, depression, panic attacks, phobias, relationship, anger, temper, control issues, PTSD, multiple diagnoses and addictions.
I have thousands of hours of clinical practice working in various settings over many years. I was consulted by Politicians on the Scottish Government's approach towards survivors of childhood abuse. For many years I managed successfully a trauma service for abused victims and organised and facilitated trauma training in Scotland.
People usually come to me through personal referrals as I offer quality therapy with a difference and have a reputation of helping people to achieve positive outcomes against the odds. Maybe you are experiencing certain issue and want to improve your everyday functioning. Perhaps you tried other therapies and didn't fully achieve what you have hoped for or simply never had any experience and don't know where to start.
Sometimes therapy can be a difficult process and choosing the right therapist with whom you can develop a therapeutic relationship with can be hard but very important decision. I am here to assist and guide you not only based on my expertise but also the capacity for wisdom and healing we all have but are often not aware of or may not have previously accessed.
Each of us is a unique individual so every session is adapted to the person’s needs by integrating various approaches and creative styles. My non-judgemental, respectful and confidential environment with emphasis on deep empathy and honesty, hopefully will allow you to feel safe and address various fears. I see myself as a challenging, flexible and grounded therapist who has a wealth of experience and the clients’ best interest at heart. Together we can explore your thoughts, feelings and physical sensations that underpin patterns of behaviour that you don't like or may not even be consciously aware of.
For online sessions I use the Zoom platform, a free encrypted video communication and audio conferencing service. Online therapy is very useful and beneficial to people who struggle to get out or have busy lives or have limited or no local face to face opportunities.
Coming from a medical background as a physician my special interest lies in somatic dissociation, performance therapy and how psychological issues affect physical health and vice versa. I like bridging the gap between medicine and psychotherapy and take a holistic approach towards the client.
As the therapist specialising in couple and trauma counselling/psychotherapy I also provide individual/group supervision, study groups, mentoring, consultations to organisations, run various presentations on request and training.
I offer CRM (Comprehensive Resource Model) and BSP (Brainspotting) therapy.
CRM is a neuro-biologically based effective trauma treatment model. For more information please go to www.comprehensiveresourcemodel.com or look at Lisa Schwarz CRM explanation clips on Youtube.
BSP is a revolutionary treatment model that helps clients to access unprocessed trauma in the subcortical brain. For more information please go to www.brainspotting.com or www.bspuk.co.uk and look at David Grand BSP explanation clips on Youtube.
