About me

I provide a private Art Therapy Service for young people and adults in the Kingswood area of Bristol.

Art Therapy is a form of creative therapy where art is made in the company of an art therapist as a primary way of communicating thoughts, feelings and experiences. Art therapy differs from other forms of therapy as it is a process between the client, the therapist and the created object.

I am an experienced, thoughtful, reliable, open and approachable Art Therapist based in Bristol.

As a therapist I offer my clients a non judgemental space that can help to creatively explore and talk about life events past or present. Through building meaningful relationships with my clients I help to facilitate new perspectives that will bring about a sense of acceptance or even re-evaluate situations or feelings.

At the heart of my work I value individuals and I work in a person centered way. This means I will adapt my skills and the way I work to my clients needs and listen to the client to understand what is needed from art therapy sessions.

I am passionate about being individually creative and believe that learning or developing a creative skill or creative identity can improve mental health as well as improving inner well-being.

More about Art Therapy:

Art therapy can be helpful with a range of issues like anxiety, stress, panic attacks, depression and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Art Therapy can bring understanding and change towards the feelings or behaviour that occurs when we experience trauma, loss, bereavement, and grief.  Working with images often brings clarity to situations (past or present) and can improve our personal relationships, low self worth, and low self esteem as well as improve mental health and wellbeing.

Images are useful when words are hard to find. Talking about feelings or situations can be difficult so creating images or objects through metaphor and symbolism can act as a bridge to communication. Using art as a vehicle for words can be helpful for those who don't find it easy to talk about their feelings or prefer non verbal communication.

Using art materials are used can contain difficult emotions like anger or frustration so they can be explored safely.

You don't have to be artistic or an artist to take part in art therapy sessions. Art therapy considers the process of how the image or object is created and doesn’t focus on the quality or how the final product looks.

The first appointment will be a gentle session where I can get to know you at the pace you find helpful. I will show you around the room and introduce you to the art materials you can use. I will gently explore with you what is needed from our sessions.

Client Testimonial:

  • Client J "I would definitely recommend art therapy as it really helped me to get in touch with my creative and artistic side and also my inner child. I was looking for a different type of therapy as I had previous experience with several psychodynamic and person-centred therapists and a gestalt therapist. All of which were very helpful but I have a creative side that struggles at times to find ways of expression in our left-brain obsessed society. I wanted to carry on exploring themes that related to my past trauma and find a new way to express my feelings thus I chose to engage in art therapy. I had art therapy with Tyna for several months and during that time I got a lot out of the therapy and created some very deep, emotional drawings and collages. Overall, I highly recommend art therapy with Tyna as an alternative way of getting in touch with inner feelings and emotions. I have carried on drawing since and find it to be very therapeutic".
