About me

Welcome. You have taken a first important step in seeking help and support for your difficulties. I have over 10 years’ clinical experience and have worked with a wide range of issues and clients. I offer confidential and professional counselling, providing a careful balance of support and challenge, to enable you to explore your difficulties. My aim is not just symptom relief, but a deeper personal transformation.

What I offer:

During the Covid-19 restrictions I am able to offer sessions online or by telephone. Although different to meeting in person, I follow the same fundamental principles as face-to-face counselling:

  • A warm, genuine and supportive approach to explore your difficulties
  • A non-judgemental space in which to challenge your self-beliefs
  • A professional and confidential service
  • An opportunity to gain deeper insight and self-awareness
  • Practical tools to manage your difficulties

In addition, there can be some advantages to working in this way. Some clients actually find it easier to talk about some things when they're not the in the same room as their therapist.
Also, I may be able to offer you more flexibility with dates and times, and if you have to change location for any reason, you'll still be able to continue with your sessions, as long as you have access to your device.

I have over 10 years clinical experience as a counsellor and psychotherapist and have worked with clients suffering from:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Panic Disorder
  • Relationship Difficulties
  • Family issues
  • Bereavement and loss
  • Stress
  • Work-related issues

I also work with clients wishing to undertake personal growth and development.

My approach

My approach is Humanistic and Integrative. What does this mean?

I believe that as human beings we are all capable of making choices, creating meaning in our lives and embracing our full potential. Rather than seeing you as ‘ill’ or ‘flawed’, I will see you as a human being who has become stuck in unhelpful patterns of thinking, feeling or behaving. Your choices may no longer be clear to you, your life may have lost meaning and you may not feel that you are achieving your potential in life. This can lead to symptoms of depression, anxiety, stress and frustration.

I offer a non-judgmental and honest therapeutic relationship, providing a careful balance of support and challenge, to enable you to explore your difficulties. My aim is not just symptom relief, but a deeper personal transformation.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.

Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.

All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

UKCP

UK Council for Psychotherapy

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

Further information

Before training as a psychotherapist, I worked for many years in a Sales and Marketing environment for a large global corporation. I, therefore, understand the culture and expectations of such an environment which can be very helpful to some of my clients.
I have made some major life changes and am well placed to support clients who are contemplating similar life decisions.
I am also a parent and so understand the pressures and anxieties that this role brings.

My counselling and psychotherapy practice is based in Newton Abbot which is also within easy reach of Totnes, Torbay, and the South Hams area. My consulting room is at the Dartmoor Centre for Counselling and Psychotherapy, conveniently close to Newton Abbot town centre, only 9 miles from Totnes and less than 10 miles from Torbay towns.

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.
