Hello and welcome to my page.
My passion is to encourage and inspire others to find their amazing strengths and resourcefulness.
I have a nursing background, with many years working in the community as a District Nurse and Marie Curie Nurse. I have also trained as a midwife and so have welcomed many babies into the world as well as being with people at the very end of their life. These have been privileged times; sharing great joy and sadness with people at their most vulnerable. It has also helped me to put things into perspective.
After having a period of severe depression, and personally experiencing the benefits of counselling, I decided to train as a counsellor. I hope that others will be able to benefit from insights that I have learnt over the years.
We learn to respond to situations in ways that have been learnt from the past. These responses may have been helpful at one time but may now be outdated. Awareness of this leads to understanding and allows us choices on how we want to be today.
Not all difficulties are a result of our past; we can experience times of loss and challenges which are completely out of our control. There is no right way to grieve, but it can be helpful to have someone to listen and provide support at this time.
What to expect from counselling
The first session is an opportunity to get to know each other and to discuss what has brought you to counselling. It can be helpful to spend some time before this noting any questions you would like to ask when you come along.
Together we can decide on an individualised plan for your way forward. It is important to remember this is a time for you and you are in control. This is not set in stone but rather a flexible process in which we can experiment and evaluate as we go along. Part of the process is celebrating your successes on your journey!
