Dr. Tricia Tumelty
Family and Systemic Psychotherapist
I work with individuals and with families .
I offer a range of approaches to meet the needs of the presenting problems or challenges in people's lives. My overarching position is that of a narrative therapist which seeks to adopt a respectful, non- blaming approach to counselling and which centres people as the experts in their own lives. I view problems as separate from people and assume people have many skills, competencies, beliefs, values, commitments and abilities that will assist them to reduce the influence of problems in their lives.
Training, qualifications & experience
Doctorate in Health and wellbeing ,UKCP registered counsellor ,psychotherapist /Family Therapist MSc Family Studies
I am skilled at talking and listening to people about the challenges they face in their lives. With over 30 years experience working with individuals, couples and families I am skilled at helping people think about and talk about their difficulties in ways which help them feel more empowered to make changes in their lives.
My particular interest is in narrative therapy as I believe everyone has the necessary resources to make changes in their lives but that for some people for a variety of reasons and stories this is a harder process than for others. Part of the therapy I offer is around thinking about the stories we all have about our lives and how we have come to have those stories including stories that were created by other people around us. The therapy I offer looks to review and evaluate these stories.
