About me

Having worked as a Senior Specialist Therapist and Clinical Supervisor within the NHS, I have extensive experience working with varying degrees of emotional complexities, this has given me an in-depth knowledge of mental health presentations including depression and generalised anxiety, diagnosis and treatments. I am an integrative therapist which means I use a variety of techniques to best suit you the client.

Often people come to therapy to explore the self-destructive patterns in their lives or relationships. There are times for all of us, when we feel a bit lost, uncertain or stuck. Managing emotions, anxieties and sudden life changing events can be extremely difficult- feeling alone, isolated or rejected intensifies the hurt with friends and family, often further complicating the situation.

Therapy provides an opportunity to explore and understand what is going on, so that one can move forward. Sometimes, this can be about making changes in our ways of thinking, feeling and behaving. At other times, this is about coming to an acceptance of things we can't change.

The opportunity to talk to someone in a safe, non judgment environment can be incredibly empowering, gaining, greater self awareness and understanding. Therapy encourages a different kind of relationship, one in which you can feel accepted and supported, so you can be honest about yourself and your feelings.

I aim to provide a safe and comfortable calm space in which together, we can start to explore your presenting difficulties.

Training, qualifications & experience

A qualified psychotherapist/counsellor and clinical supervisor with a Master’s Degree in Therapeutic Counselling; an Accredited Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and am also entered on their Accredited Register. I have been working with adults and children offering varying degrees of support for over 20 years, in both paid and unpaid roles, and have acquired thousands of clinical experience hours.

Couple Therapy for Depression is a structured treatment recommended by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE). When one partner is depressed this can have a detrimental effect on the relationship and the other partner. Understanding the cause of the depression and exploring this in therapy can bring much relief to both partners.

Couples Counselling provides a safe space to talk things through and work through difficulties you may be experiencing. Some of these difficulties may include, poor communication, arguing and conflict, betrayal, affairs, sex and intimacy struggles, with compulsive sexual behaviours, otherwise known as sex addiction.

I have specialist training in working with Compulsive Sexual Behaviour, Sexual Addiction provided by the Institute of Sex Addiction Training (ISAT) (Laural Centre ) and am a member of the Association for the Treatment of Sexual Addiction and Compulsivity (ATSAC). I can work with the addict or their partner or both as required.

Having actively supported the work of the charity ‘One in Four’ and 'Rape Crisis' both as a therapist and now as a clinical supervisor, I have a vast understanding of the complexities that shadow survivors of Childhood Sexual Abuse (CSA) and other sexual traumas. I have extensive experience of working with both male and female clients.

As a qualified Therapeutic Coach I am able to support in a warm, emphatic caring manner as well as encourage, motivate and promote positive self growth.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

ATSAC
Association for the Treatment of Sexual Addiction and Compulsivity (ATSAC)

The Association for Treatment of Sexual Addiction and Compulsivity (ATSAC) is the leading UK organisation providing hope, information, support, and treatment options for those affected by sexual addiction and compulsivity.

ATSAC sets standards of practice for qualified therapists and provides accreditation for specialist training courses. A therapist who has gone through ATSAC recognised training will have the knowledge to respect and work with you sensitively to find out how best to support your needs.

Therapy options may include one-to-one sessions, group work, and/or relationship counselling. ATSAC is a not-for-profit organisation.
