About me
Welcome to A Space for Me. I work as part of a husband and wife team. Both being experienced Therapists we offer a wide range of talking therapies, allowing us to provide a bespoke service for children, adults and couples. With over 30 years of combined experience in both the public and private sector, we can provide highly qualified and experienced help from a choice of female or male therapist. We work from a beautiful garden room, exclusively set up for therapy which offers complete privacy and confidentiality, in a lovely setting with relaxing woodland and countryside views. Ample and safe car parking is available. Whilst working as a team, our work remains confidential to the therapist allocated.
I have in excess of 36 years experience of working directly with children, adolescents, adults and families. Since qualifying as a Systemic & Family Psychotherapist in 2009, I have worked in the NHS as a Lead Systemic Family Psychotherapist in Rotherham CAMHS and I moved back to Nottinghamshire CAMHS (to be nearer home) as a Systemic Family Psychotherapist until 2021.
Since then, I have retired from the NHS and I have made a conscious decision to deliver some part-time independent/private therapeutic work. I strive to offer a high quality and attentive systemic psychotherapy service to a varied client group with a specialism in childrens and couples therapy. I do not offer court-related work.
Systemic & Family Psychotherapists work in a way that acknowledges the contexts of people's families and other relationships, sharing and respecting individuals' different perspectives, beliefs and views to explore possible ways forward.
In terms of Couples Therapy, my specialism is to facilitate and open up safe therapeutic conversations which would help a couple move forward with dilemmas and difficulties within their relationship. This would be in a situation where the couple both want to be part of the therapy. I do not undertake work related to court or legal/divorce proceedings.
Training, qualifications & experience
I started my foundation Systemic Practice training to become a Psychotherapist in 2003 at Sheffield Hallam, moving to Birkbeck College at the University College London for my Intermediate Course. I then achieved my MSc at Leeds University in 2009. This training was undertaken whilst working full time in CAMHS (Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service) within the NHS in Nottinghamshire as a Specialist therapeutic Social Worker. Prior to this I worked as as Social Worker in Child Protection, Specialist Fostering & Adoption and Adult Mental Health Services. Whilst working in the NHS my role included clinical supervision of staff members and trainees. I qualified as a Clincial Supervisor for mental health professionals (PGCert) at Manchester University in 2018.
All of my systemic work is subject to the registration requirements of the Association of Family Therapy & Systemic Practice within the UK (AFT) and the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). This includes adherence to the AFT & UKCP Code of Ethics. The codes of ethics and conduct and a detailed introduction to systemic practice and therapy, including the evidence base can be accessed on the AFT Website www.aft.org.ouk.
Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.
As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.
UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
