About me

My name is Tracey Vaughan and I offer individual counselling to adults providing a supportive and client centred approach. A place where you can come to be heard, where you can tell your story and be listened to non-judgementally, with empathy and respect.q21`

I offer generic counselling covering a wide range of issues to individuals. These include bereavement and loss which also includes grieving the death of a pet, stress and depression, relationship issues, low self-esteem and trust issues; as well as support with health and life changing events.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a qualified counsellor with a Diploma in Humanistic and Integrative Counselling from the Bath Centre for Psychotherapy and Counselling (BCPC). I work in Private Practice in Midsomer Norton and as an Assoicate Counsellor with 'Why... we hear you' Cancer support counselling agency. In the past I have experience of working with clients at Cruse Bereavement Agency, Bristol, with students via Student Listening Services at the University of Bath and with the Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) at the Royal United Hospital, Bath. I am a registered member with the British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP), and work within the boundaries of their code of ethics. I am dedicated to my own continuing professional development. This enables me to grow not just professionally but personally and I believe this contributes to a healthier way of being.

Prior to counselling my background had been in nursing, working mainly in critical care. Moving on after a life changing event I found counselling was the perfect way that has enabled me to continue to care for people in a different way to nursing. This has challenged my thoughts in a positive manner on how to support people and empower them to grow and thrive.

My approach as a counsellor is in the Humanistic tradition. This means I believe in the therapeutic relationship between therapist and client as the fundamental place where clients can safely explore what is troubling them. I aim to achieve this by working respectfully in an empathic, confidential, transparent and non-judgmental manner.

Through a combination of my own life experiences and my professional training I am able to offer supportive and empathic counselling to people experiencing their own life challenges. To explore with them; to challenge and empower them to try and find within themselves the answers that may lead to their own life changes.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

I believe that to achieve our full potential and happiness in life, we need to know and be true to our authentic self. There are points in our lives when for any number of reasons this may not be possible and can result in feelings such as unhappiness, low self-esteem or a lack of motivation, leaving us feeling our life is off track. This is where counselling can help. In client centred therapy, the therapist listens to the client empathically and without judgement, developing rapport and trust to create a therapeutic relationship. It is in this safe environment where the client can begin to understand and accept themselves for who they are. In turn this can empower the client to feel able to make informed decisions about their choices and the life changes they wish to make. I am committed to working in this way with my clients.

I am trained in the Humanistic and Integrative Counselling approach. This means that as well as a commitment to developing a therapeutic relationship I have knowledge of other models that I can use to develop a client centred approach. An aspect of this is I believe in how past life experiences can affect how we respond to current life situations. This tends to be longer term work, and only when client feels it is safe and comfortable to do so.

I offer generic counselling covering a wide range of issues to individuals. These include bereavement and loss which also includes grieving the death of a pet, stress and depression, relationship issues, low self-esteem and trust issues; as well as support with health and life changing events.

Counselling sessions are 50 minutes long and are held weekly. I can offer short term work and this is usually 6 – 8 sessions and is committed to with a central focus in mind. Long term work continues for as long as the client and therapist feel it is beneficial.

All my counselling is regulated and governed by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
