About me

My aim within the counselling relationship is to put you in the driving seat, to let you navigate where you want to go. I feel that this approach is empowering and helps you to find a solution that works best for you. I never make promises that I will heal or fix you, however, I can promise that I will hear you, that I will walk beside you and I will help you unpack what is holding you back or holding you in a place of stuckness and encourage you to heal yourself within the safe space of our relationship.

Clients have described me as down-to-earth, honest, and non-judgemental- I feel that this is something that comes naturally to me. I am a mum and I relate to parenting issues and know how difficult and isolating it can feel.

Sometimes events in our past can impact on the here and now. Going back to the younger version of you can be scary and painful, but can also offer the freedom you need to be your authentic self. That internal voice can be telling you you're not good enough, you can't do it, you wish you were more like that person who has confidence, and that you are a bad or selfish person, these kinds of messages are ones that are usually given to us by someone else, as children we take these on as our own because we believe that adults know best. Working with your inner child will enable you to take back the power that was taken from you and to give yourself permission to install new values and boundaries. To reconnect the child part of you to the adult part of you and to hear your own voice and own values and beliefs.

My specialist interests are ADHD and helping clients overcome and make sense of theirs or their loved ones' diagnoses, I have personal experience of getting a late diagnosis and the feelings that come with this and also have a daughter who received a late diagnosis. I also work with anxiety, self-esteem, and problems within relationships.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a qualified integrative counsellor, which means that I work with you as an individual and draw on different methods and approaches. I have completed training in inner child work and I feel that this approach can help with childhood trauma.

I have lived experience of ADHD, my daughter had a late diagnosis after struggling for years to figure out what was wrong. Throughout her diagnosis, I also got my own diagnosis. I have been honoured to help clients in similar situations to process their own adult diagnoses and also with parents who are struggling with their children's diagnoses.

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

Some of my work is around inner child work and I feel that sometimes things that have happened in childhood remain unresolved or masked. Maybe you were told you weren’t good enough, got blamed for things and put into situations that were out of your control. Sometimes it is important to heal that child within to be able to move forward. This may mean going back to the events and making sense of what was happening and maybe what you needed at that time.
