Tiziana Barton MBACP Registered
I am a qualified and experienced therapist and registered member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP), working with adults, children and young people.
Every human being is born with a core self which is loving and creative. During childhood years this inner self can get lost because of the way we are parented or due to the effects of traumatic life experiences. Conditions in adulthood such as anxiety, depression, panic attacks, addictions and relationship difficulties can often be seen as symptoms of the disconnection from our core self. Losses such as death of a loved one, divorce, or redundancy can also lead to further difficulties.
Counselling is a powerful way to allow you to work through these issues and help you with the healing process. I will support you to gain new insights and perspective on your situation. I believe that simply being listened to in an empathetic, non-judgemental way in a safe and confidential environment is in itself a life-changing experience for any human being.
The core aim of my counselling work with clients is the creation of a confidential, safe and empowering therapeutic relationship based on mutual trust and respect. The main healing lies in the ongoing relationship itself and it is this that makes therapy a unique experience for both the therapist and the client. When working with clients I have found that developing "unconditional presence" (simply being with what is) best supports the way that the client is held in awareness. This is essential for any healing and growth, and I believe it to be true that it is the quality of awareness that heals within the therapeutic relationship.
I also specialise in working with children and young people as well as grief and loss.
Training, qualifications & experience
I gained my Advanced Diploma in Integrative Counselling at the Iron Mill Institute in Exeter and have been counselling since 2006. My integrative approach gives me a wide range of resources and interventions to use with clients based on different theoretical approaches. I have a person-centred, existential approach to counselling. My general philosophy is a holistic one that sees the client as a whole, encompassing mind, body and spirit.
I have a Diploma in Supervision (Dartmoor Centre for Counselling & Psychotherapy).
I am very committed to my personal development both professionally and in my personal life. I have regular supervision to ensure I provide the best service for my clients as well as overseeing my professional development. As a member of BACP I am bound by its Ethical Framework for Good Practice.
I have a private practice and I am also the school counsellor in a secondary school in the Teignbridge area.
