Tina Irving MBACP (Accred), DipHE, BA Hons
First steps in seeking help can feel daunting and it's normal to feel apprehensive as you begin to take your first steps towards getting the help and support you are looking for. I hope that it may help to learn a little bit about me and how I work with clients.
I have 12 years experience of counselling in a wide variety of settings and I am now able to offer therapy to adult individuals and couples in comfortable and discreet premises close to the centre of Leeds in Headingley.
As a Relational Counsellor my core training at Leeds Metropolitan University drew on both Person-Centred and Psychodynamic traditions and this forms the basis of the way I work today. I will encourage you to consider working creatively with images and drawings and I use hypnotherapy techniques for relaxation and as part of working with anxiety and PTSD.
I aim to work alongside you and at your pace, in order that together we can fully explore and ultimately gain a better understanding of the difficulties you may be facing. It is also important to recognise the part that you play in your relationships with others and I hope to help you to consider your choices and when you might want to make changes so that significant relationships with others, as well as your relationship with yourself can be better.
Some clients prefer to work on a short-term basis (6 weeks +) whilst others would like to work for considerably longer - we can talk about what may be most appropriate for you during the initial session.
Here's what a few former clients have said about working with me
"I had a really useful set of counselling sessions with Tina through which I know myself better and am kinder to myself. I also understand some of my relationships better - past and present. Tina is warm, encouraging, supportive, professional, flexible and has a lovely sense of humour. I would highly recommend using her".
"Tina had endless patience and stuck with me through some very dark times. I am feeling so much better now and I would recommend her to anyone who is thinking about getting help".
"My experience of working with Tina has been insightful, challenging at times but above all very emotionally healing. I felt relaxed and at ease almost immediately and genuinely looked forward to our sessions. My anxiety is under control and I am a much happier person, better able to cope when life is tough. My personal relationships are stronger and I feel more in control at work. A very worthwhile and rewarding experience, thank you Tina."
