I care for the stories that are brought to the counselling room because they weave together the meaning and sense that we make of our lives. Your story matters, and whether you feel stuck, anxious or afraid, talking about it in counselling can help bring to life how you relate to yourself and to life's challenges to provide some insight.
I am a psychodynamic counsellor which means I pay special attention to those hidden and obscured parts of ourselves which impact how we feel and relate to others around us. Perhaps there is a difficult but familiar feeling that just won’t go away, or alternatively you might find yourself in situations that don’t feel right, or maybe life has started to feel empty. Psychodynamic counselling can help bring an awareness to underlying patterns that keep us from being able to enact change. You may find that counselling in this way may offer insight, and most of all, offers different ways of relating.
It is important that you find a counsellor that feels like a good fit. Therefore, I offer an initial session at a reduced rate so that you can consider how it will be like working together. I aim to offer a warm, explorative and accepting space for counselling. If you have any questions, or would like to book an initial session, feel free to email or call.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have extensive experience working with:
- Loss and grief
- Fears and anxiety
- Identity crisis
- I hold a Post Graduate Diploma (PGDip) in Counselling and Psychotherapy from the University of Edinburgh where I am currently completing my doctoral research.
- I obtained a BA (Hons) in Psychology and Philosophy
- I have worked extensively in hospice care where I completed training on facing loss, illness, and bereavement.
- Experienced in mindful based practices.
I have an interest and appreciation for spiritual practice, I find that these personal elements are often overlooked in mental health. Moreover, having lived in different parts of the world has also helped me cultivate a flexible working style, accommodating different counselling needs across cultures. I continue to practice and attend continuing professional development training.
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
Accredited Register Scheme
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
