About me

Text, call or email me to make a first appointment on 07730650433

After the first session, you can choose whether you want ongoing sessions.

I offer both short term and long term work, and specialise in:

- anger management
- relationships
- self esteem
- stress
- loss
- sexuality

I am fully qualified, highly experienced and a registered and accredited member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (MBACP). I work in my own private practice on Edward Street, Brighton, with adults on a one to one basis.

I work face to face and also with Skype and telephone counselling, which offers flexibility to those who may not be able to attend face to face sessions.

I see clients weekly, at the same time and day each week, but this can be flexible for example for those working irregular hours.

My approach

I work psychodynamically. Using unconscious behaviour and words of the client to help dig deeper into the problem to allow for far greater self-awareness and clearer healthier choices.

I can also offer CBT counselling alongside which can offer many skills and strategies to manage the heat of the moment difficulties.

I have worked with both approaches since 2005, and experienced them myself, and find them effective and liberating so I have faith and belief in them.

What you can expect...

The process is very straightforward. Come and speak about whatever is on your mind. Whether the pressing problem or seemingly irrelevant unrelated matters, that usually are in fact very related and revealing for the pressing issue. It works with having a weekly momentum where unknowingly progress will be happening between sessions too.

The first session gives the chance to see how effective we can work together. The session is a discussion of 50 minutes talking about whatever you wish to discuss.

We will work together until you find the best point to leave, whether 3 sessions or you can remain and benefit from longer term work. You will feel when it is the right time to stop, especially if already having overcome some difficult sessions where you might have wanted to avoid facing uncomfortable or awkward matters.

How it works...

Counselling offers the opportunity to sound off and off load. To live a lighter day to day life. It also offers the rare chance to hear some life changing truths, and reflect back on things which others have not seen or were not heard. It also and most importantly offers the chance to experience a secure trusted healthy attachment to a kind and boundaried person who is constant, reliable and consistent.

I believe everyone would benefit from counselling. Most of us can bumble along. But why bother when there is the opportunity to live life fuller and lighter. It offers the chance to explore sensitive awkward painful feelings memories and experiences in a safe trusted way.

I see clients weekly, at the same time and day each week, but this can be flexible for example for those working irregular hours.

Training, qualifications & experience

I trained for four years as a counsellor for Chichester Counselling Services. I have also run therapeutic groups with cognitive behavioural therapy since 2005.  I have been working one to one with counselling clients psychodynamically since 2005. I have been supervised at every point. Prior to this, I have a lengthy academic background as well as holding down various jobs in sales, banking, voluntary work and pastoral care. I've personally benefited from counselling myself with both short and long term work on several occasions for a range of issues which started with family bereavement.

I am an Accredited full Member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (MBACP Accred). I have a diploma in psychotherapeutic counselling from Chichester Counselling Services. I have degrees in Law (Lancaster), Divinity (London), and Community and Criminal Justice (de Montfort, Leicester).

Recent testimonials:

"You're a great counsellor and listener with a kind heart. Should I ever need you again, I'll certainly be in touch".

''Thanks again Tim for all your help, everything is going great for me now both personally and professionally. Will always recommend you to anyone I feel needs some guidance.''

"I have been amazed by the positive changes I have been able to achieve in such a short time which have been a direct result of my sessions with Tim. His direct, supportive, friendly and non-judgemental manner enabled me to meet my challenges head-on with a confidence I was sure I had lost and prompted an openness and honesty within myself which I am still putting into practice today. I would recommend him to anyone - and have already done so!"

''I worked with Tim over a number of sessions and the results were lifechanging in terms of my overall happiness and self-esteem. The best thing about Tim's approach is how he brings to the surface truths about yourself and the situation that deep down, you already knew. Positive and life-affirming experience.''

"I wanted to make a change and with Tim's support I did. I felt confident to speak openly and freely without inhibition. Tim occasionally would make me stop and think about what I had said with a pertinent question or the use of metaphor and this I found immensely helpful. Apart from allowing me time to review and really think about what I had said it made me feel listened to and in a way cared for. Tim clearly likes what he does and is very good at it."
