Tim McLoughlin BS. (Hons), B.Phil. C.Dip. MBACP
I am a qualified counsellor and BACP registered. I provide time limited and open-ended counselling and psychological therapy. In short and longer term work, I often work integratively, drawing on different counselling theories, as I believe that no single model of therapy suits all clients.
My preferred approach is both person-centred and relational . This means that I aim to understand how psychological distress can be linked to feelings and ideas about ourselves or other people of which we may be unaware. The relationship between client and therapist provides us with the tools to do this.
I have experience working with people experiencing distress for many reasons, including
Some clients may not know what is wrong and suffering from a sense of unease or are unhappy in their lives and want to understand why.
Training, qualifications & experience
I hold a Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling from The Metanoia Institute (University of Middlesex) where I also studied for four years on the post-graduate Counselling Psychology Doctoral programme. The Metanoia Institute is widely recognised as being one of the most rigorous training routes in the UK. Since qualifying I have undertaken further training in the fields of mindfulness, CBT, nature-based therapy and addiction counselling.
I am registered with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy.
I have worked as a counsellor in an NHS hospital ward for mentally ill patients, a local government counselling charity and a university counselling service.
In addition to my counselling practice, I work within the public sector supporting the work of schools and teachers in Buckinghamshire drawing upon my former career as a primary school teacher. At the moment within my private practice I am able to offer sessions in Beaconsfield and animal-assisted therapy in various locations in the Chilterns.
