Theresa Russell MBACP, Cert Ed, Adv Dip Coun, Dip Adv CBT, Dip Mindfulness
Hello and a warm welcome to my therapy profile.
Update May, 2020
As the CORONAVIRUS pandemic continues, I am still not offering face-to-face appointments, for the foreseeable future. All client sessions are by telephone or video calling. If you are seeking counselling, psychotherapy or coaching support, please make contact to discuss your therapy needs.
I am a professionally trained, qualified and experienced counsellor, coach and psychotherapist, based in Bexhill-on-Sea, and serving the Rother District area of East Sussex.
I am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and work within their Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions (1 July, 2018).
As a counselling therapist, I bring genuineness, warmth and sensitivity to the development of a relaxed and trusting therapeutic relationship with you.
I will provide you with a regular, safe, private and confidential, shared space in which we can explore together, as therapist and client, your thoughts, feelings and actions and how they impact your attitudes, behaviour and general well-being.
I will listen attentively and with patience to what you have to say; show you empathy, respect and acceptance without making any judgement of you or your situation.
I will support you in finding your own insights and understanding of your difficulties so you can move forward through any feelings of stuckness and uncertainty that you may be experiencing, and bring about the change you desire.
I will enable and encourage you to solve your own problems; gain confidence in yourself to deal with any future life challenges which may occur, and help you build a range of strategies for coping.
You may have some issues which go back to your childhood, and you might want to explore how early life patterns can influence how you view things now and your current thoughts, feelings and actions.
I am an integrative therapist which means I can combine several different methods of counselling, coaching and psychotherapy, in order to help you solve your problems.
I will always access a variety of therapeutic approaches according to your individual needs. These include proven, research-based talking therapies such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), setting SMART goals, as appropriate.
I offer individual face-to-face counselling, coaching and psychotherapy, as well as telephone and on-line services. These can be on a short, medium or long term basis, and maybe for a fixed period of time or contracted on an open ended basis.
Telephone counselling is available to anyone over the age of 18 and living in the UK.
This can be an effective way for us to work together when it is not possible to meet face-to-face for a number of reasons. It can give you easy access to my professional counselling service from the comfort of your own home at a time which is convenient for you.
Telephone counselling can be suitable for clients:
- who lead busy lives and would find it more convenient
- who live at a distance or in more remote areas
- who do not find it easy to leave their home
- who find face-to-face counselling difficult
Outreach home visits may be available for counselling clients who live within a 10 mile radius of Bexhill-on-Sea, and who find it difficult to leave their own homes.
Outreach home visits can be suitable for counselling clients:
- who are elderly
- who are infirm or disabled
- who are housebound
- who have regular caring commitments

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.
Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.
All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

Accredited Register Scheme
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

My charge for a 50 minute counselling session is £45 payable, preferably, by bank transfer in advance of the session, or in cash at the beginning of each face-to-face meeting.
Telephone sessions must be paid for in advance using bank transfer, Pingit or equivalent.
Some clients, however, have expressed a need for longer sessions and a 75 minute appointment can be booked at a charge of £65, payable in the same way as mentioned before.
Fees are reviewed annually on 1st January.
Through my previous work with the NHS, I know just how long the waiting lists for therapy can be, and how urgently some of you need counselling, but cannot always afford to pay for private consultation. Therefore, I do have a limited number of sessions available at concessionary rates for counsellors in training, students and those of you on benefits or low incomes.
Please note that I do operate a cancellation policy. If an appointment is missed the full fee is payable, unless 48 hours notice is given.
I am able to offer you an initial telephone consultation for up to 30 minutes. This call is free of charge and without any further obligation.
The session gives you the opportunity to ask me any questions you may have about the counselling process and for me to assess your particular needs.
We can then decide if we feel we can work together before you make an appointment and commit to regular, on-going counselling sessions.
Therapy sessions are usually weekly, on the same day, at the same time and in the same place, wherever possible.
