Theresa Russell Reg. MBACP, Cert Ed, Adv Dip Coun
Hello and a warm welcome to my counselling profile.
I am a professionally trained, qualified and experienced counsellor based in Uplyme, near the coastal town of Lyme Regis, West Dorset and also the market town of Axminster, East Devon, close to the border with South Somerset.
My two readily available practice venues are within easy reach of Lyme Regis, Charmouth and Bridport in West Dorset, as well as Seaton, Colyton and Honiton in East Devon and Chard and Crewkerne in South Somerset.
I am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (Reg MBACP) and work within their Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy.
As a counsellor, I bring genuineness, warmth and sensitivity to the development of a relaxed and trusting therapeutic relationship with you.
I will provide you with a regular, safe, private and confidential, shared space in which we can explore together, as counsellor and client, your thoughts and feelings and how they impact your attitudes, behaviour and general well-being.
I will listen attentively and with patience to what you have to say; show you empathy, respect and acceptance without making any judgement of you or your situation.
I will support you in finding your own insights and understanding of your difficulties so you can move forward through any feelings of stuckness that you may be experiencing and bring about the change you desire.
I will enable and encourage you to solve your own problems; gain confidence in yourself to deal with any future life challenge which may occur and help you build a range of strategies for coping.
I am an integrative counsellor which means I can combine several different methods of counselling and psychotherapy in order to help you solve your problems.
You may have some issues which go back to your childhood or you may want to see a change in your present circumstances, how you view things, or your behaviour.
I will always access a variety of therapeutic approaches according to your individual needs.
I offer individual face-to-face counselling and psychotherapy, as well as telephone and on-line counselling, on a short, medium or long term basis. This can be for a fixed period of time or on an open ended basis.
Telephone counselling is available to anyone over the age of 18 and living in the UK.
This can be an effective way for us to work together when it is not possible to meet face-to-face for a number of reasons. It can give you easy access to my professional counselling service from the comfort of your own home at a time which is convenient for you.
Telephone counselling can be suitable for clients:
- who lead busy lives and would find it more convenient
- who live at a distance or in more remote areas
- who do not find it easy to leave their home
- who find face-to-face counselling difficult
Outreach home visits may be available for counselling clients who live within a 10 mile radius of Lyme Regis or Axminster and who find it difficult to leave their own homes.
Outreach home visits can be suitable for counselling clients:
- who are elderly
- who are infirm or disabled
- who are housebound
- who have regular caring commitments
Additional details of my professional counselling service are available by request.

My charge for a 50 minute counselling session is £40 payable in cash at the end of each face-to-face meeting. Telephone sessions must be paid for in advance using BACS, Pingit or equivalent.
Some clients, however, have expressed a need for longer sessions and a 75 minute appointment can be booked at a charge of £55, payable in the same way as mentioned before.
Fees are reviewed annually on 1st January.
Through my previous work with the NHS, I know just how long the waiting lists for counselling can be and how urgently some of you need therapy but cannot always afford to pay for private consultation. Therefore, I do have a limited number of sessions available at concessionary rates for counsellors in training, students and those of you on benefits or low incomes.
Please note that I do operate a cancellation policy. If an appointment is missed the full fee is payable, unless 48 hours notice is given.
I am able to offer you an initial telephone consultation for up to 20 minutes. This call is free of charge and without any further obligation.
The session gives you the opportunity to ask me any questions you may have about the counselling process and for me to assess your particular needs.
We can then decide if we feel we can work together before you make an appointment and commit to regular, on-going counselling sessions.
Regular consultations are usually weekly, on the same day, at the same time and in the same place, wherever possible.
If you would like to make contact with me then I would be very pleased to hear from you.
You are welcome to ring my mobile number, on 07812 721107, to chat initially about your counselling needs and requirements, or to make an appointment.
Unfortunately, I am not always available to take your call immediately but I will get back to you as soon as I possibly can. Please leave me a brief voice message, including your name and telephone number, so that I may return your call.
I aim to return all calls within 24 hours on weekdays and the next working day if you ring me at the weekend.
Alternatively, you can email me at email@example.com
