- I am exceptionally experienced in working with people who have difficulties in relationships with other people.
- Often people I see have lack of confidence, very low self esteem and difficulties with trusting others.
- I work with people who struggle with a lack of identity or sense of self.
- I am very familiar with working with people who are suffering from depression and anxiety.
Due to my long term practice I am competent and experienced in dealing with many different problems (See list below for more 'Areas of counselling I deal with.')
How I work
I am an integrative therapist, highly skilled in several models of counselling\psychotherapy in which I have trained in to meet clients specific needs. Each person is different , therefore no one therapy suits every individual .My underlying philosophy is person centred, offering a warm non-judgemental, empathic and honest relationship which encourages clients to explore and make sense of difficult feelings and experiences. This then helps them develop greater insight into the issues they bring and discover new ways of dealing with them.
My aim is to listen and work in such a way that offers understanding support and integrity and goes at the clients pace.At the beginning of therapy we explore your needs and the ways we could work together that you may find of most benefit and our approach is mutually agreed.
The therapeutic models I draw from are:
-Person centred art therapy skills
-CFD (counselling for depression) recommended by the Department of Health's NICE guidelines as evidence based treatment for depression
What clients have gained.
Clients I have seen have experienced improvements in their relationships with others and have been able to understand their feelings better. They have gained more self confidence and self esteem. It can be quite difficult to talk about feelings to those closest to us . Some clients have spoken about things in sessions that they have never shared with anyone else.
Clients have spoken about extremely painful experiences and through exploration have been able to look at things from a different perspective and been able to move to a position of still remembering what has happened but feeling less raw, less trapped and more hopeful.
Clients have gained realisations about themselves in relation to themselves and others and made positive changes. Other clients have regained their own self worth and in some cases a reason to carry on living.
To get started please give me a ring on the above telephone number or email me to arrange an initial no cost with no obligation to return 30 minute introductory meeting. This is to see if I am the right therapist for you. We can discuss what you want to get out of counselling and I will share with you what I can offer.
You may want to have a think before arranging any further sessions and get in touch at a later date or you may be decide quite quickly. If we do agree to work together, we can then arrange when to meet and how often . Alternatively If you do not wish to have counselling with me that is fine. it is important that you feel comfortable with who you see and that your counsellor can meet your needs.
I have a practice room in Romiley, Stockport . It is close to a car park, a main bus route and the railway station. It is 10 minutes drive from Stockport town centre and the M60/M67.
