About me

Welcome to Southlake Therapy, where finding your way through life’s challenges is my priority.

Life can sometimes feel like an uphill battle - whether this is battling with persistent stress and anxiety, feeling disconnected from the world around you, or grappling with the weight of past experiences. You might be feeling exhausted from wearing a mask every day, pretending that everything is okay when it isn’t. Or perhaps you are struggling at work, feeling stagnant while others seem to breeze through life. The fear of judgement and the weight of comparison can also be overwhelming making it hard to express your needs and set healthy boundaries.

With over 13 years of experience as a counsellor, I bring a wealth of empathy and understanding to my practice. I have helped clients unravel the hurt from past traumas, discover a more confident version of themselves and reduce their anxieties whether this is working with young people who have never felt valued, individuals struggling in their careers, relationships or their worth, couples navigating relationships challenges, and those with adverse childhood experiences. My approach is rooted in compassion, creating a space where understanding your struggles is the first step towards transformative change.

My journey through challenging childhood experiences and anxiety has deeply shaped my path to becoming a counsellor. I have walked through my therapy journey, understanding the courage it takes to seek help. Through years of study, professional development, and working with clients, I’ve learned the importance of genuine listening without judgement and appreciate the challenges and confusion living with mental health brings and the impact it has on our ability to cope, connect, and see clearly. Together, we can delve into the depths of your thoughts and start addressing the fears that may seem daunting to express out loud. Counselling helps you work with, not against yourself. My therapy sessions aren't about stiff, clinical conversations – they're about creating an environment where you can be unapologetically yourself!

I work with individuals both adult and young people from the age of 11, as well as couples. I work in person, online or via the phone.

Am I the right Counsellor for You?

I am a registered and accredited member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP), which means my qualifications have been verified and I work within a framework of ethics and guidelines. I bring a Humanistic Integrative approach to our sessions. This means placing you at the core, trusting and working with you so that your journey towards change and growth will unfold at your own pace.

Counselling is not just for those facing rock bottom; is a positive self-care practice for mental wellbeing and self-improvement. I acknowledge the courage it takes to seek support and be open about your feelings. Finding the right counsellor is crucial, which is why I offer a complementary 15-minute telephone call, to explore how we might work together and for you to ask me any questions. Feel free to book a call through the counselling directory or contact me directly using my email or phone number.

My therapy room is conveniently located with parking in Woodley close to Reading, Bracknell, Winnersh, Wokingham, Earley, Hurst, Charvil, Twyford, and Sonning. If you would like to start the conversation please either email or phone/text 07780163515. I am happy to discuss any queries or questions you may have before booking an initial appointment. (If emailing, please check your junk/spam folder in case my email ended up in there)

I eagerly anticipate the opportunity to connect with you on this transformative journey.

Warm regards.

Theresa

Young people may not want to talk to teachers or parents when they have a problem and counselling can be a very different and positive experience. Drugs, eating disorders, self-harm, bullying, exam stress, and family and relationship problems are just some of the issues that young people bring into my counselling room. It is a place for them to learn how to express themselves. This may be through words or creatively. It is a safe, confidential space.

Call, text, or email to see how I can help, or look at my website for more information.

I offer reduced rates for young people up to the age of 18.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
