About us

The Old Surgery is a growing counselling and psychotherapy practice based on two sites in central Church Square, Leighton Buzzard. Since 2006 we have been offering a caring, confidential and professional service helping people with relationship problems, anxiety, bereavement, depression, and drug and alcohol problems amongst other issues.


Our Associate counsellors are all Registered and fully qualified in counselling, and members of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. Student counsellors are qualified to at least Level 3, under professional supervision and members of BACP. All counsellors are fully insured.


As well as working with individuals and couples, we provide Family counselling, therapy and supervision and provide a low cost service when needed.

BACP Registered Counsellor Sue day holds a level 6 qualification .integrative approach .Sue offers counselling for couples, indeviduals and young adults age 15 up. Sue also offers supervison . Sue has a speciality working with addiction. fees start at £45 indevidual, £60 couples .and supervison is £70 

BACP Registered Counsellor Sonia George holds a CPCAB Level 5 qualification. integrative aproach. Sonia has evening and weekend appointments. Her session rate is £45 indevidual and couples £60. low cost spaces available.

BACP Accredited Senior Counsellor Jean Harding holds a Diploma in Gestalt Counselling. Jean has more than fifteen years experience including EAPs, based in Leighton Buzzard Jean is a highly experienced Senior Counsellor and her session rate is £55 for individuals, £70 for couples.

BACP Accredited Counsellor/ Psychotherapist Kate Hardy has a BA in Counselling from the University of Middlesex, a Postgraduate Diploma in Supervision (Level 7) from the Sherwood Psychotherapy Institute and is in advanced clinical training In Transactional Analysis at the Berne Institute. Kate is a Senior Counsellor with over fifteen years’ experience, and her session rate is £55 for individuals, £70 for couples. online only.

BACP Registered Counsellor Dawn woosley  holds a Level 5 qualification, integrative approach.  Dawn has over 10 years experiance within a sexual health clinic and schools. Dawn works with young people 10 up, individuals and couples her session rate is £45 for individuals, £60 /75 for 90 minutes for couples. day and evening appointments

BACP Registered Counsellor Jackie Howell holds a Level 6 qualification  and also holds a Diploma as a Fusion Therapeutic Life Coach. Jackie works with young adults age 13 up, indeviduals, couples and offers  supervision . Her session rate is £45 indeviduals £60 for couples day and evening appointments.


BACP registered Counsellor Wes Berrisford- Kapon holds a Level 5 qualification . Wes works with indeviduals .Wes has a person centred / humanistic aproach .His session rate is £45 .Wes has evening and weekend appointments .


BACP Registerd counsellor Sara Smith holds a level 4 qualification. integrative approach.  Sara works with indeviduals ,  young adults age 13up . Sara also works as a school counsellor. her fee is £45 offers day, evening and weekends .

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
