About us

We are psychologists with more than 10 years of experience both within the National Health Service and private sectors working to the highest level with a wide range of psychological challenges and client demographics. We offer an integrative approach to therapy which ensures that we are able to offer bespoke treatment plans based on an individual's requirements rather than offer a 'one-size fits all' approach. We draw on humanistic, cognitive behavioural and psychodynamic psychotherapeutic perspectives depending on the needs and wishes of our clients. This allows us to provide a safe space for clients to talk openly, and begin the process of developing a greater self-awareness of the processes and patterns which cause them to experience their particular difficulties.

We offer a fresh and original approach to therapy where we not only listen but also provide practical coping skills. Our clients have stated our style not only allows them to talk openly but that they have learnt tips, tricks and techniques that aid them to move on when feeling stuck.

We have worked in various settings including secondary care services in London NHS trusts, bereavement services, and education providers. Our experience ranges from working with older adults to child psychotherapy, with clients experiencing a variety of psychological difficulties. We work with people experiencing difficulties such as: depression; OCD; relationship difficulties; stress resulting from work and other pressures; bereavement; low self-esteem; and a range of anxiety problems, such as panic, health anxiety, social anxiety and PTSD.

Therapy can be helpful for

  • Those wanting to understand the causes and the maintenance of their problems.
  • Thinking about where you are in your life and how you wish to move forward.
  • Exploring relationships (intimate, family, work).
  • Managing general life stressors.

This may involve:

  • Developing a more compassionate relationship to yourself.
  • An increased ability to make connections between experiences, emotions, memories, ideas, desires and dream material.
  • Increased creativity, spontaneity and flexibility.
  • Greater impulse control, patience and tolerance.
  • A release from the past, opening up new possibilities.
  • The ability to mourn what is lost, or may not have been.

We provide an open, sensitive and confidential space where you will be met with warmth, respect and acceptance. This environment enables an exploration of issues or patterns of behaviour which may have been difficult to deal with alone.

We offer goal oriented and solution focused therapy of 10-12 sessions as well as long-term more exploratory therapy.

Psychologist - Maya Starling

During my 10 years of clinical practise in the NHS, I have gained knowledge and competencies in a broad range of specific models of psychotherapy, including cognitive behavioural (CBT), cognitive analytic therapies ( CAT), Transference Focused Therapy and Compassion focused therapy (CFT). I also base my work on the systemic understanding of the individual.

Over the years, I have acquired comprehensive experience of specialist psychological assessment, intervention and management of clients with complex physical and long-term health needs. I have supported clients in managing pain and distress associated with medical treatments, such as chemotherapy or transplants. I have also worked in settings supporting clients across the whole range of clinical severity, such as Personality Disorder, Bipolar Depression and Eating Disorder.

Overall, I draw from a wide range of intervention options, including metaphors, visualisations or deep relaxation. I adopt different therapeutic models to help clients with depression and anxiety and to discover a new way of relating to their life experiences.

Further information

We offer a free initial consultation over the phone where you can discuss what brings you to therapy and what you aim to get from it. We will have an honest conversation with you about working together therapeutically to manage the challenges you may be facing. If you decide therapy is right for you we will invite you to come and meet us for an assessment, where we will take a more detailed history. At the end of the assessment we will ask you how the experience was for you and whether you feel comfortable to work with us. If so a regular time will be allocated and we will agree on an initial number of sessions which will be reviewed on a regular basis. If you feel that the relationship did not click between us we will be happy to refer you on.
