About us

Having worked in one of the most prestigious Harley Street Clinics for the last three years, we have decided to set up a psychological therapy service closer to home, in Cranleigh Surrey. We are a family run practice offering a combination of psychological therapy and Chiropractic Care.

Here at The Health Lounge in Cranleigh, we make your health our priority. Our mission is to provide excellent holistic care to improve the overall physical and emotional health of all our clients. Our multidisciplinary team incorporate both chiropractor's and psychological therapists to provide medication-free approaches in managing health and well-being.

We provide comprehensive psychological therapy, delivered by experienced clinicians who are BABCP accredited. We use evidence-based therapies, including:

  • Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
  • Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT)
  • Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR).
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Eating Disorders (CBT-E)
  • In addition to this, we also draw upon third waves approaches to CBT, which include Mindfulness, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT).

Training, qualifications & experience

With years of experience, our clinicians in Cranleigh have undergone extensive training above and beyond what is required. The team are passionate about being at forefront of the evidence and research within their fields.

Natalie Edwards, Our Clinical Director and Senior Cognitive Behavioural Therapist currently works for the NHS, The Blue Tree Clinic near Harley Street and at The Health Lounge. She holds both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Psychology. In addition to this she holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) with The University of Royal Holloway. She also has experience supervising and lecturing master’s students studying CBT.

What’s the difference between CBT and counselling?
Both CBT and counselling are used to support people with similar issues like anxiety and depression. And they’re both forms of talking therapy and can be used for short term work.

CBT is a very proactive approach to therapy, focusing on making changes to thoughts and behaviours that are contributing to your distress. Your therapist will work with you to produce a visual diagram illustrating what is keeping you stuck within your difficulties. This might look at your past experiences to help make sense of your current patterns, but the focus remains on making changes in the here and now. This diagram will become your map for treatment. Therapy will likely incorporate a combination of ‘talking and doing’. We try to make our sessions as creative and interactive as possible.

Counselling is less directive and through listening, empathy, encouragement and challenge counselling hopes to help the client to better understand themselves and find their own solutions to cope with the issues that face them.

Arguably someone could equally benefit from being supported by both interventions at different times in their times. CBT has been shown to work for a variety of mental health problems. This doesn't mean it's better than other therapies, however the evidence base is more robust for CBT.
