About us

Hello, and welcome to The Family Tree Centre a Community Interest Company set up to support children and carers affected by a family breakdown. We appreciate you taking the time to learn more about how we could support you as you deal with difficult feelings and thoughts.

We understand the power of family and that at times this can be difficult to navigate on your own. We provide counselling for children and young people, including care leavers or children still in care. We also support adults who are foster or kinship carers and parents/grandparents struggling to come to terms with family breakdowns.

Additionally, we provide supportive sessions for children in care who wish to explore their life stories and experiences. We believe that understanding their own journey is vital for shaping their identity, self-esteem, and confidence.

All our counsellors are suitably qualified members of the British Association of Counselling Professionals and adhere to their ethical guidelines and framework. We use a range of therapeutic approaches and always in a collaborative manner accepting that you are the expert in your own life. Sessions last for 50 minutes and are most commonly on a weekly basis. Everything discussed stays confidential and is conducted in our Darlington office.

If you think we can help you through these challenging times, please do not hesitate to reach out for a free introductory session. We look forward to hearing from you and welcoming you into The Family Tree Centre.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
