About me

Finding the 'right' therapist can be a confusing and daunting enterprise.   Both my training and personal experience have taught me that there is no one template for how to be in the world. As an integrative psychotherapist I incorporate a number of different schools of thought into my practice and believe that this increases my ability to address your particular needs as an individual with your own unique history and personality.

An initial consultation comes with no obligation to continue, but gives us the opportunity to start the process of exploration, establish goals, and see how we might work together. At this point we might also decide whether to work on a short-term or more open-ended basis.

The reasons people come for counselling/therapy are numerous. You may find that you have always functioned perfectly well but that the impact of a one-off event (either negative or sometimes even seemingly positive) has de-stabilised your sense of yourself, how you view the world and others in it. Your usual coping mechanisms can become stretched to breaking point and you may start to question things you always took for granted. Having the space to explore what is happening to us is invaluable at these times.

Sometimes we are simply feeling 'stuck' in our life and want something to change but are not sure how. Counselling/psychotherapy offers us the opportunity to gain a better understanding of how we have come to view the world and our place in it, thus offering us a greater sense of choice about how to proceed.

Through exploration and reflection, within a safe, confidential and non-judgmental counselling relationship, I believe we can increase our ability to cope with whatever life presents, as well as enriching our enjoyment of life and relationships with others. This is not just about 'thinking things through', but about being allowed to feel emotions which we may have had to ward off while we try and 'cope'.   From personal experience, having someone to rely on who is committed and compassionate and not part of our every day life, can make us feel safe enough to experience a range of emotions, giving a sense of relief, increasing our own self compassion and sense of empowerment.

I have worked in the NHS as well as in private practice. I have experience of working with a range of people of different ages, sexualities, linguistic and cultural backgrounds.

I offer both individual short-term and longer-term counselling and psychotherapy in central London (2 minutes from Oxford Circus tube). I can offer day-time, lunch hour and evening slots with concessionary fees (depending on availability)

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
