About me

I understand that it's tough when life events stop us from living life as we would want to. As your counsellor,  I can offer a confidential, safe and non judgmental space where you will be heard.

I appreciate that's it not easy to face some difficult issues or to even think about how to make changes so in your first session we can discuss what has brought you to therapy and focus on the changes you may want to make.  I believe that it is important that you make choices for your future and I can help you to think about how you will do this because you know yourself better than anyone.  My role is to help you to explore your thoughts and feelings and so help you to focus on what's best for you for your future so it's important for us to develop a trusting relationship where together we can work on your issues so that I can offer you help, support, a listening ear.

I have over 17 years experience as a counsellor and in the last 6 years I have specialised in offering trauma focused therapy to survivors of recent/historic sexual and emotional abuse.  I also supervise counsellors in practice who work with survivors of sexual, emotional and physical abuse.

My recent experience is working as a Senior Trauma Therapist with the Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) in Cardiff.  I also offer clinical supervision to 3 leading domestic violence charities in Cardiff as well as working with EAPs.

I have 20 years experience of developing and delivering wellness workshops.  I currently deliver training on stress resilience, assertiveness, facing difficult feelings and mindfulness.

Training, qualifications & experience

Counselling Experience

I work in an integrative way incorporating person-centred, CBT and psychodynamic approaches into my practice. I am a qualified Mindfulness practitioner and enjoy using this in my practice.

I qualified as a Person-Centred Existential Counsellor in 2005 and I qualified as a Clinical Supervisor in 2015.  I have experience of working with couples to enhance their relationship and I trained as a Trauma Therapist in 2013 with Cardiff & Vale NHS Trust Trauma Therapy Service.

I have experience of working in the private and voluntary sectors and I have over 20 years experience of working with the NHS.  Most recently I worked as a Counsellor with an Employee Wellbeing Service in a local NHS Trust in Cardiff.  I also worked as a Senior Specialist Trauma Therapist with the Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) in Cardiff, working with survivors of current and historic domestic, sexual and emotional abuse.  I set up my own private practice in 2015 and see clients in my home.  Since COVIDS-19 I have learned new ways of working to include Skype/Zoom/Teams and working over the phone.

Clinical Supervision Experience

I provide Clinical Supervision to staff working with Womens Aid (Rise), Cardiff University and Atal y Fro.  I also offer clinical supervision to counselling midwives in Cwm Taff Health Board, the Safeguarding Team at Cardiff & Vale University Health Board as well as supervising qualified and trainee counsellors in private practice.

Training Experience

I qualified as a trainer in 1990 and have delivered policy training and workshops for over 20 years.  My training style is warm, relaxed, friendly, engaging and curious and I enjoy learning from others.

I am a Registered Member of the British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) and adheres to their Code of Ethics and Principals in relation to confidentiality and respect for client’s choices.

Member organisations

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.

Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.

All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

Further information

I provide an empathic, non judgemental and safe confidential environment is at the heart of my counselling and supervision practice.  I believe that given the right environment of acceptance, understanding, space for exploration and encouragement, clients can feel more able to explore the issues that brought them to counselling and once connections are made then this will empower clients to feel able to make choices for their future. Once these core conditions are in place then a trusting and open relationship can develop.

I am very passionate about my work and really enjoy working with individuals and couples.  I feel privileged to offer counselling to clients to help them enhance their lives.  I also feel privileged to offer consultative supervision to counsellors in order to help them enhance and develop their practice and I can guarantee a nurturing and supportive space for exploration.

I qualified as a Person-Centred/Existential Counsellor in 2005 and this is at the core of my practice as a Counsellor and now as a Clinical Supervisor.  However, I also work in an integrative way, incorporate CBT, Gestalt and psychodynamic ways of working into my practice. As a Consultative Supervisor, I see my role as a nurturing, encouraging and educative practitioner who is not afraid to challenge.  I feel passionately about the importance and value of good supervision as a way of developing counselling practice and celebrating all the good work counsellors do with their clients.  I enjoy working creatively with supervisees and use collage, sculpting, role-play, interview and mindfulness.  I use the Cyclical Model (Page & Wasket) and the Seven-Eyed Model (Hawkins & Shohet) in my supervision practice and I see my role as helping supervisees to reflect openly and honestly about themselves and their practice, accept challenge and ultimately help them to grow and develop in their practice.Over the last 10 years I worked as a Counsellor with the Employee Wellbeing Service at Cardiff & Vale University Health Board.  I left this post in March 2020 to concentrate on my private practice.
