About me

Are you feeling anxious, sad or angry ? Perhaps your mood has been low for a while and you can’t seem to shift that feeling. Sometimes life events such as trauma, loss, family problems or work issues can leave us feeling helpless.

Perhaps you are considering help to untangle your thoughts. Maybe you think a lot about things that have happened in the past that still affect you. Whatever you are going through counselling can offer you the opportunity to understand your troubles and find different ways of coping.

Sometimes there may be a sense that life is lacking in meaning and direction. We can all lose sight of who we really are and what we want from life. Counselling can help you make sense of your experiences, reconnect with your inner resources and live life more fully.

I provide a range of professional, friendly and non-judgmental psychological services. With a strong background of managing mental health services for over 25 years I have extensive experience of a wide range of issues.

  • Worked as a manager within IAPT (NHS) counselling services.
  • Registered and accredited with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
  • Accredited EMDR UK and Europe trained practitioner and a member of the UK Association for EMDR therapy.
  • Fully insured and DBS certificated.

My private practice provides recommended and effective talking therapies using up to date psychological approaches underpinned by the latest neuroscientific research. I think it’s important to find the best individual therapeutic approach that will make a difference to client’s lives.

I offer a safe, confidential space to talk about your fears/worries and explore difficult thoughts and feelings. I can help you look at problems differently, for example building resilience to cope with a crisis or coming to terms with a difficult situation.

Alongside traditional therapies I offer a range of specialist work

  • Mental Wellbeing. Helping to cope with issues such as anxiety, panic, stress and depression.
  • Understanding gender and sexuality. Specialised work with lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and transgender clients
  • EMDR Therapy. Psychotherapy that enables clients to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences and trauma. For more information on EMDR therapy see www.whitstablecounseling.co.uk and www.emdrassociation.org.uk

Whitstable Counselling offers a space to share whatever is on your mind knowing you will be met with warmth and acceptance. Please get in touch by telephone/text  07401 816148 or email. There will be no obligation to book a session. Talking to someone may seem difficult but by contacting the service you are taking the first step.

I respond to all enquiries promptly - If you send an email, a text or leave a voicemail I will usually get back to you within 24 hours, often much sooner.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
