-psychotherapist specializing in trauma

About me

I am a trauma and anxiety specialist helping people to overcome recent trauma such as toxic relationships, an assault or accidents and childhood difficulties such as dysfunctional families, abuse, narcissistic caregivers, loss and bullying. Many people who had a traumatic experience suffer from high levels of anxiety. You might find yourself struggling in your relationships or at work. When something goes wrong, you start overthinking and take full responsibility. All you want is to control your feelings but you find yourself overreacting instead. You feel like nobody understands you and self-doubt. Therapy can help.

I have worked with many war refugees, childhood trauma survivors, sexual and physical violence survivors and was a part of their journey of regaining the control of their lives. I specialize in trauma, PTSD, anxiety, low self esteem, borderline personality disorder and work with CBT and Schema Therapy, and trauma informed therapy.

Trauma has found me in my life just like it found you and I decided to specialize in this field to help you. Your life has not been easy but it is even harder when you feel depressed and anxious and try to recover from trauma. My stance is a hopeful one. I would like to be a part of your journey of change and build a satisfying future.

MY PSYCHOTHERAPY TRAINING

I am a psychotherapist with ten years of experience. I have a bachelor’s degree in Psychology (2012) and master’s degree in Clinical Psychology (2015) which I completed extensive psychotherapy training as part of the programme.

Previously, I worked as a psychotherapist for several charities such as Doctors of the World, Maya Foundation, Family Action and Imece Women's Centre.

I am an International Society of Schema Therapy certified Schema Therapist.

APPROACHES

Schema Therapy:

In schema therapy, we will work to uncover and understand your schemas, sometimes called as life traps which are unhelpful patterns. Schema therapy aims to teach you how to ensure your emotional needs are met in a healthy way that doesn’t cause distress.

You may find Schema therapy helpful if any of the following apply to you:

•You experience low levels of self-esteem, and struggle with self-worth

• You have relationship difficulties

• You struggle with friendships

• You worry a lot

• You feel constantly low

• You have body image problems

• You have eating problems and/ or eating disorders

• You have been to therapy before, it helped you with awareness building but you struggle to change things

• You experienced childhood trauma

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy:

It is a short term psychotherapy approach that help you to manage your problems by changing the way you think and behave. It is the mostly recommended approach to treat anxiety, panic disorder, depression, OCD and PTSD.

I will help you to identify and challenge any negative thinking patterns and behaviour which may be causing you difficulties. In turn this can change the way you feel about situations, and enable you to change your behaviour in future. You and I might focus on what is going on in your life right now, but we might also look at your past, and think about how your past experiences impact the way you see the world.

Young Adults Therapy:

If you are a young person experiencing personal and emotional difficulties such as relationships with family, friends or partners, or you may have difficulties at school, college or work, I am here to understand what’s been troubling you and I tend to integrate the methods based on your needs to see the best outcome.

FIRST MEETING

We will meet for an initial consultation session which takes between 50-60 minutes which we will discuss your needs, expectations, my style of working and come up with a plan if we decide to work together further. Please get in touch with me to book an appointment.

Member organisations

BACP

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
