About me

Thank you for taking the time to explore my profile. Here, I aim to provide you with a clear picture of my therapeutic approach and how I work to make a significant difference in the lives of my clients.

My Therapeutic Approach

My practice is built on an integrative model with a special focus on attachment theory. This foundation allows me to draw upon a diverse set of therapeutic practices, tailoring each session to meet your unique needs. I advocate for working at your own pace within our therapeutic relationship, supporting you in developing rich and meaningful connections in your life. Understanding is key to healing, and I am dedicated to providing a compassionate, empathetic, and safe environment for our work together.

Couples Therapy Expectations:

While I offer empathy and understanding, I also present observations that might be challenging to hear, with the belief that coaching can shift painful patterns. The goal is typically set for six sessions with a review, incorporating both couple and individual sessions to address and heal relationship dynamics. From the first session, couples gain effective skills for mutual understanding and are encouraged to practice these between sessions. My approach with couples is heavily influenced by my professional training with Esther Perel and solution focused brief therapy.

Individual Therapy Expectations

The initial assessment helps us jointly decide on your therapy plan, clarifying how we'll work towards your goals. We might use CBT, Person-Centred therapy, EMDR (attachment informed), Internal Family System, Psychodynamic therapy, or a combination, depending on the issues at hand.

Specialisms:

- Couples Therapy: My work is centred around guiding couples to ask the right questions for a deeper understanding and lasting change. My expertise includes improving communication, resolving conflicts, rebuilding trust, navigating differences in sexual needs, goals, values, and parenting styles, and understanding the impact of external factors like family, finances, lifestyle, and culture on relationships.

- Individual Therapy: Since 2009, I have supported clients through a variety of challenges including anxiety, depression, self-esteem issues, PTSD, phobias, panic attacks, abuse, trauma, and relational issues. With over 4000 successful EMDR sessions, my work extends across NHS (IAPT), charities (Mind), and private practice, offering a warm and practical approach to healing.

Training, qualifications & experience

As an accredited counsellor with extensive qualifications, including membership with BACP and BPS, accreditation as an EMDR Europe Practitioner, and certifications in Attachment Focused EMDR and marriage counselling, I bring a wealth of expertise to my practice.

Having completed my first Master's degree in Psychology with distinction in 2009 and a postgraduate degree in 2016, my training includes specialised courses with the Tavistock Institute, Grove Institute, and professional training with Esther Perel.

Since 2018, EMDR has been central to my daily practice, assisting clients with recent challenges through standard EMDR techniques or addressing deeper, childhood-rooted issues with Attachment EMDR.

Please feel free to email me for a 15 minute complementary zoom call.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Testimonials

"At first I was unsure whether EMDR was the correct therapy for me but with your patience and guidance I have managed to resolve many different channels and feel as though a huge weight has been lifted from my shoulders. Past therapies have left me feeling lost as the root of the problems were never addressed, but I now feel as though I have been thoroughly cleansed and am stepping out of the darkness and into the light of a new world, where I am no longer controlled by the past. It has given me hope for the future that things can always be resolved." J.P. 2020

"I attended talking therapy with Tara in order to address my anxiety and depression. Tara offered me the options of focusing on my current struggle which was triggered at my work or to address it more deeply by looking at my childhood and attachment style.

Having been offered the options rather than being fitted into a  particular Psychological model, gained my trust to start therapy with Tara.

Within our work in therapy, Tara was a very attentive and caring listener and picked subtle points that I was missing. It seemed to me that she asked the right question and gave me the space and safety to find the answer for myself.

It felt that in each session we discovered a new piece of the jigsaw and built up the big picture together. By the end of therapy my confusions and doubts had changed to a sense of clarity and confidence..." A.B 2019
