About me

Tara is a Chartered Counselling Psychologist registered with BPS and HCPC. Tara has over 10 years experience working with a wide and diverse range of emotional, mental health and life difficulties.

Tara currently provides online therapies over video, phone and instant messenger. Please see website for more details.

Tara's background is in existential-humanistic therapy. This is a relational form of therapy which teaches the client how to view their problems from a broader perspective and to find the answers within themselves to resolve their own difficulties. Tara does not believe that diagnosing problems or medicalising them bring the therapist nor client any closer to understanding them. Therapy is about deeply engaging with the client's world, helping to identify blind spots and learning to manage difficult feelings and relationships more effectively.

A word about online therapy:

Therapy is about engagement and relationship. It is an intimate space in which to be together and share life's difficulties. Face-to-face meetings are always preferable for therapy because it is in the real-life, genuine encounter that two people can really meet and engage.

However, there are many reasons why face-to-face meetings might be unrealistic or simply not possible for regular therapy. I see clients from around the world and clients with disabilities who are housebound or with mobility impairment. I also see people who are so busy that they cannot create space for regular face-to-face meetings, including parents who meet with me once their children are in bed. It may also be that you simply cannot find a suitable a therapist nearby, or just prefer the flexibility and simplicity of online meetings. Over the past year I have run a successful online therapy practice and have found that online methods suit a wide range of people with different needs.

I always offer a free 15 minute consultation using your preferred method of therapy (video, telephone or instant messenger). This allows you to try out the medium and ensure that you will be comfortable with this method and allows you to get to know me and ask any questions you wish. This 15 minute consultation also allows me to assess your suitability for therapy and to begin to explore what you are looking for from therapy and how I may best help you.
