Tanya Ingram Adv.Dip MBACP Counsellor and Supervisor
Hi, my name is Tanya. For me training to be a counsellor was an amazing journey and it is important to me that I use the skills I have learnt and the knowledge and experience I have to help those who are suffering. I offer a private and confidential service based at my home in Gainsborough counselling adults, children, adolescents and couples. I provide a safe non-judgmental place for you to talk and explore your feelings. I know making the decision to come to counselling can be a scary one and I will do my best to help make the process as easy as possible. If you are worried about face to face counselling I do offer telephone counselling. You may find this suits your needs or that it will help you gradually become able to come for face to face sessions. Please feel free to give me a ring for a chat and I will answer any questions or concerns you may have.
My aim as a counsellor is to help you through any difficulties that are causing you distress with a view to helping you manage or overcome them. I will listen empathically and do my best to help you change negative thought patterns, I am not here to give advice but will help you to develop a better insight and understanding of your problems. I do not pretend to have all the answers but through counselling I hope to be able to help you find them.
I have many years counselling children through a number of issues from low self-esteem to anger issues. Our children are important and if they're happy then we are happy.
I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and have completed the Certificate of Proficiency.
What is counselling?
Counselling is a talking therapy that aims to help you deal with and overcome problems and issues that are causing you pain and distress. Counselling provides a safe environment for you to talk and explore your feelings. A counsellor will not give advice but will help you to develop a better insight and understanding of your problems. A counsellor is trained to listen with empathy and help change negative thought patterns.
How can counselling help?
We have all heard the saying a problem shared is a problem halved and most of us will agree that is true, however we don't always have the opportunity to share our problems as we don't want to burden family and friends or we feel like our problems are not important enough. It is not always in our best interest discussing our difficulties with family and friends. This is where counselling can help. The problems and difficulties that you bring to counselling can be expressed freely and openly in a safe environment where you are not judged. Your thoughts and feelings surrounding these difficulties can be explored helping you to develop a deeper insight and enabling you to free yourself from unwanted thoughts and feelings
We all look after our children, our family, our homes, our pets and our cars but sometimes we forget to take care of ourselves. A lot of people are concerned about the cost, they understand what the cost is but not the value. Counselling helps you deal with your problems and difficulties and gives lasting and life long benefits. It can help give you the tools to manage other difficulties that you may face in the future.
'I was very surprised at how effective the counselling process was, I remember thinking after my first session with Tanya how much it had helped just to have someone listen to me who showed no bias no matter what I said. It was an amazing feeling' K.E

BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.
Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.
All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
