About me

Hello and welcome to my page.

I am Chartered Counselling Psychologist with over 20 years experience of working in the mental health sector and 13 years working as a qualified psychologist.

I have been working as a Counselling Psychologist since 2009 and have worked across a number of NHS settings. This includes providing a psychology service in GP practices, working in a Community Mental Health Team, a Psychological Therapies service and a specialist Crisis Intervention Service. Alongside my NHS work I have also been working in private practice since 2011.

My therapeutic approach

As a counselling psychologist I have been trained to offer a range of therapies which I can tailor to your individual needs and circumstances.Therapy may involve working on a clearly defined problem area and may be time-limited. Alternatively, it may be more appropriate to work in an open-ended contract in which you can explore your issues further.

The main therapeutic approaches I draw on are Compassion Focussed Therapy, Mindfulness and EMDR. These approach bring together a broad range of theories and have a strong evidence base in helping people manage their emotional health and address difficulties associated with trauma and chronic stress.

Research has shown that the therapeutic relationship is crucial in determining how helpful therapy can be. Central to my approach is a focus on the therapeutic relationship, which is collaborative and involves working together on an agreed focus for therapy. It is important that you feel that you can trust the therapist you decide to work with.

What to expect

During our initial meeting you will have the opportunity to address any questions you may have and to see how you feel working with me. I will discuss confidentiality with you and tell you more about what therapy may involve. You and I will then be able to decide if counselling psychology is right for you, which can sometimes take one or several more sessions. If it is helpful we can arrange an initial telephone consultation to find out if you would like to book a session with me and answer any questions you may have.

Making contact

If you have any questions you would like to discuss prior to arranging a session please do get in touch either via email or telephone. I aim to respond to all enquiries within 48 hours.
