About me

My aim is to create a warm confidential safe space for you to feel respected, heard, understood and supported, enabling you to find meaning in your difficulties. My belief is that Counselling can improve your self-awareness and in doing so will help you feel differently about yourself and life.

My inspiration for this career stems from a desire to connect and communicate with people. This inclination has been a thread throughout my life. Having undertaken Counselling myself I have directly experienced the cathartic and powerful change that it can bring about. This both inspired me to train as a counsellor and enabled me to develop a more profound learning process.

I will work to help you understand how past events and problems can influence the current way you view yourself and others. This may include destructive thoughts and patterns of behaviour. During the initial consultation we will discuss what has prompted you to contact me including any information you are willing to share, and what you hope to achieve from counselling.

I am trained as an 'Integrative Relational Psychotherapeutic Counsellor'. I draw on a framework of areas such as Psychodynamic, Humanistic, Gestalt and Cognitive theories to inform my work.
I am also interested in mindfulness and meditation techniques to bring about understanding, compassion, self-care and change. I can therefore work in a flexible way to ensure that our therapeutic relationship gives you the maximum support.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

Depending on the needs of each individual, I offer both short term and long term work with clients, and see clients on a weekly basis. Short term work usually means weekly sessions, and is usually for a limited period of time. Long term work is open ended - meaning that no end date is set. Frequency of sessions is totally dependant on the individual and their presenting problems, and is often negotiated as the work progresses. Recognition of the client's needs is an ongoing process because everyone is different and therefore they will have different needs.
