About me

My name is Tamasin and I am offering counselling services both in person (in offices based in Southend) and online (via Zoom).

Feel free to text or call me to arrange an assessment session to see how you feel about me and whether you would want to commit to therapy with me. Therapy is a two way street, it is very important for you, as a client, to be able to feel comfortable and confident with the person you choose as your therapist.

Working together, our sessions can encourage personal growth and self-development, leading to an increase in self-awareness which often brings feelings of empowerment and generally, feeling better. It doesn't have to touch on painful feelings and or become soul searching, but it can be.

I work in a client led way, which means there are no set amount of sessions. The amount of sessions you want, or need, is completely led by you. I find the usual amount of sessions clients find helpful are around six, but this is individual and personal to you and your circumstances.

If you have any questions at all, please do get in touch and I will do my best to answer any questions you may have.

Training, qualifications & experience

  • Five years of training in Counselling (starting 2004)

Counselling training has changed in recent years, therefore I have additional training:

  • Basic Counselling Skills (1yr)
  • Intermediate Counselling (1yr)
  • Foundation Counselling (1yr)
  • Two year Diploma in Integrative Counselling
  • Degree with the Open University in Psychology and Literature.

There are three main types of counselling: Person-Centred, CBT and Psycho-dynamic. As an integrative counsellor, I am able to offer CBT as a way of working through any specific problem areas, or Person Centred when facing deep emotional situations such as bereavement or loss.

I came to therapy through tarot readings, angel card readings and reiki healing. I trained for five years for my Diploma in Counselling, combined with a degree in Psychology and Literature, I do have an academic background and an interest in people and trying to make sense out of our existence on the planet.

I also have many years experience of working with people using Angel Cards since 2000, Reiki healing since 2009 and I have been working as a fully qualified, private counsellor since 2017.

All counsellors are required to have supervision, and I personally attend supervision once a month. If I need to talk about your session to a Supervisor, your identity will always remain confidential.

Member organisations

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.

Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.

All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

I do offer reduced rates for people on low incomes or who can't afford the fees (for whatever reason). There is an affordable therapy scheme available in Southend at the Therapy for Life practice (Weston Chambers in Southend) where there are a group of counsellors who are able to offer help on the scheme. I am part of that scheme, but I am not always available! If I can't help you, I may know a person who can, so please do ask.
