Tamara Hoyton; MA (Dist) PgDip Couple Therapy, PgDip Psychosexual Therapy, MBACP
Hello, and a warm welcome to my profile.
I am a highly qualified, Relate trained Psychotherapist, Counsellor, Psychosexual Therapist and Supervisor with 18 years of experience. I offer work on relationship issues, working with individuals, couples, work on family issues, and with young people. I also offer supervision for professionals in these fields
You may be in crisis, or perhaps a culmination of persistent issues are causing you current anxiety or depression? You might need to find a new balance after a time of recognition, or address issues that are causing unhappiness, pain, distress, or lingering dissatisfaction. Are you aware of repeating arguments and a sense of “here we go again” with no resolution? Or are you beginning to see repeating patterns emerge in areas of your life but not be sure how to change these things. Difficulties need not be endured.
What you can expect.
Your first session will be exploratory for you to share what is causing you difficulty. We will go on to discuss ways of working and what you are hoping for, and talk about what you might expect. Many difficulties arise from the inability to talk about difficult subjects and you are invited to explore a preferred or different outcome in a warm, professional, and empathic opportunity to be heard, and more importantly, understood.
In Couples Therapy I deal with:-
- Affairs and betrayal
- Pre-marital therapy
- Trust Issues
- Communication difficulties
- Lack of resolution
- Negotiating change
- Parenting conflict
- Impact of past relationships
- Separation and divorce
This is a sample of what couples may bring and each case is unique.
In Psychosexual Therapy I deal with:-
- Erectile Disorder (getting and/or maintaining an erection).
- Anorgasmia (the inability to orgasm).
- Premature or Retarded Ejaculation (ejaculating too quickly or delayed ejaculation).
- Asexuality or Sexual Identity Issues ( what’s right for you).
- Vaginismus (difficulty with penetrative sex).
- Loss of Desire, (”Gone off it”).
- Dyspareunia (pain on intercourse that can be experienced by both men and women).
- Uncomfortable sexual desire (difficulty reconciling fantasy).
- Sexual Compulsion ( frequency, or type of sex is causing difficulty but the compulsion to act on it seems difficult to manage).

Loss or Grief
How I work.
Change happens in many ways. Sometimes it’s subtle, sometimes over time, through talking therapies such as counseling or psychotherapy, or changing of behaviours. It need not be anxiety invoking, however, as all therapy I offer is tailored to your needs and presentation.
Many people bring past expectations and experiences into their present relationships and this may lead to feelings of being misunderstood, unheard and of loneliness. Initial exploration will be around past history to gain insight, and feedback from you about what goals you have will inform our future work.
I will work with you to find an understanding of your concerns, your deeper needs and how they are affecting your relationships through the professional connection we will make.
How many sessions?
This very much depends on your needs. After the initial exploratory sessions we will jointly agree on the type of work best suited to you and this will have a bearing on whether our work together is short-term, mid-term or a longer therapy is required. Psychosexual Therapy is a structured program informed by your feedback.
I work in Horsforth where there is good parking and good links to public transport.
Please simply call my number for a FREE exploratory call or email me at the details given above to make an exploratory appointment. I look forward to hearing from you.

Much has been written about the efficacy of variable therapy modalities, and overwhelmingly research has shown that it is the quality of the client - therapist relationship that is the greatest indicator of success.
I strongly subscribe to this view and put great emphasis on building a professional therapeutic alliance.
