Suzanne Robertson MBACP (BScHons, BMedSci)

Nottingham NG4 & NG8

About me

Hi! My name is Suzanne and I'm a BACP registered psychotherapist.

How I work:

Whatever you want to call counselling, psychotherapy or talking therapy, the concept is the same which is true human contact. I work from an Integrative and relational perspective which means incorporating elements from different theories when appropriate and useful. It also means you and I working together to form an effective therapeutic relationship to help make sense of your experiences, to have space for reflection and a better understanding of emotions. As the therapeutic relationship models what it is to be met safely, life starts to feel less stressful as you create stability within yourself.

About me:

I am a friendly, down-to-earth, calm, positive authentic person. My background is working for the NHS for over 15 years. I also work as a part-time tutor within higher education.

I chose to become a therapist/counsellor after seeing the value of having a supportive, reflective space as a healthcare professional. I feel privileged to be alongside another within a therapeutic relationship and seeing (and experiencing!) personal growth.

Let’s talk:

Choosing a therapist can be daunting; please don’t hesitate to phone or message me so we can arrange to have a chat to see how I can help and if you feel we can work together. We can then book an initial assessment session and further regular sessions if this suits you.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have a BSc (Hons) in Counselling and Psychotherapy from Sherwood Psychotherapy Training Institute. my other qualifications include a BMedSci and a Postgraduate diploma.

I have over 3 years therapy experience of working with trauma and sexual violence. I have over 18 months experience working within a solution-focused brief therapy model.

I am currently undertaking a postgraduate diploma in clinical sexology and will be offering sex and relationship therapy from summer 2021.

Member organisations

BACP

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.

Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.

All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accessibility

Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.
